converted_to_datsun
Has anyone used the k&n air filter replacement? I'm missing the whole filter element and the k&n is the same price. I'm just not sure how the k&n is supost to be installed Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Well picked up paint and supplies today so here goes nothin. I sanded and primed the side panels and layed some bondo down on the tank and sprayed it with a few layers of self etching primer. That's all for today, for the topcoat I had some single stage slate grey metalic mixed up that I think will look great. But that's for another day Bondo skim Primer More primer 1 Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
Has anyone used the k&n air filter replacement? I'm missing the whole filter element and the k&n is the same price. I'm just not sure how the k&n is supost to be installed Bikes can be pretty sensitive to intake and exhaust changes. You may have to rejet if you go with pod filters. I'd suggest going with with a stock airbox unless that's something you want to deal with. Quote Link to comment
Syncro
I think he should use some velocity stacks. And rejet. Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Not really wanting to rejet yet. Possibly in the future but for now I'm just getting a k&n filter. It's really more of a budget build to have something to ride while I tear the datsun down for body and paint. Haha it is turning into a pretty nice bike tho Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Just got my k&n filter in the mail today and installed it. Gonna wet sand the tank down to 800 grit tonight and probably try to spray it after work tomorrow. New k&n ftw Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Got the tank and side covers sprayed today! I love the color and I'm super excited to put it back together. Probably gonna let it harden a couple days first tho cause I don't wanna screw it up Beautiful tank Side covers Quote Link to comment

I love how it looks now and it rides amazing. The wind at 60 is nuts tho lol I have a couple more parts comming in the mail that will make it a bit nicer too All nice and shiney With my truck Heck yea Quote Link to comment

Draker
What did you use to fill the holes in the tank? Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Just jb weld. It works great for that as long as you take it down to bare metal first Quote Link to comment
Draker
I'd caution you using that. It will leak very slow. I have an 82 nighthawk and PO used JB and tankseal to seal it.. But it still leaked past. You might have better results though. Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Well it was either that or find another tank. And I made sure it had optimum conditions. If it's applied over paint it doesn't work. Applied to bare metal and given plenty of time to cure it should do just fine Quote Link to comment
Draker
Yeah, I don't know how the PO did it. Could have been poorly done. I'm still trying to make a good tank from 2 crappy tanks. Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Yea the po of my bike did mine with jb weld before but it was done poorly over the paint. I feel pretty good about the job I did tho Quote Link to comment
Draker
Cool, well it does look pretty good! Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Thanks, I am pretty happy with the bike for how little I have invested in it. Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
man, im late to the party..... the bike looks good man! Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Haha not exactly in project datto so easy to miss Thanks dude! I'm enjoying it for sure Quote Link to comment
Kirden
This thread makes hard choices worse... Been looking at a few old bikes (even some really old 100cc ones). With my b-day coming up on the 17th my one and only present will be either a B210 (have to go look at it this weekend) or an old bike/moped. Found some late 60s mopeds that look like a real blast and since I just need it for going to the gym it would work B210 is in unknown condition which is the only reason I am still looking at bikes :P Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Haha yea choices are hard for sure. I'd get at least a 250 if I were you, my 550 even seems a little wimpy to a point lol and 250's are half the size. But a b220 is a awesome car too so good luck deciding lol Anyway I got another thing in the mail I've been waiting for... A better seat!! It's not new at all and had a couple burst seams but I stiched it up and it looks way better than my other seat that was held together with gorilla tape and held on with a bungee cord cause the mounting points rusted off Here's the new seat! Installed Where I repaired it (looks pretty decent) Old and sketchy Missing mounts Redneck mount... Not me Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
coming together nicely!!! still gotta see this in person Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Thanks dude! You'll see it soon enough lol Well I got my new mirrors in the mail and I installed them and I think I like them. Also added a fuel shutoff to try to fix a fuel leak... I think it worked but we'll see. Then I took it for a ride into town to get gas... Went to start it after parking it and the battery was dead. Ended up push starting it 3 times to get back home... Not sure if the battery is bad or not so I'll have I tested later but that was a very tireing trip to town since I probably pushed it half a mile finding a hill to role down. Darn gremlens The mirrors Quote Link to comment
