Z-car engines are 6 cylinders.  Nissan-Z just means you have a Z-series (aka NAPS-Z) engine.  Most likely a Z22, as that was the stock engine for 1981.

 

And no, just because you have 8 spark plug wires doesn't mean it has 8 cylinders.  (Yes, someone asked that before).  The dual spark plugs plus the design of the cylinder head and the no-pump Air Injection system was all part of the NAPS (Nissan Anti Pollution System), which was to achieve the mandated EPA (and Japanese) Emissions Standards of the time, and as a replacement for the somewhat more HP-robbing smog-pump system used in earlier engines.
