Snoopy76
So here's the story... I'm new to the Datsun world. Not that I haven't appreciated their looks, I've just never been the proud owner of one of these fine vehicles. I recently purchased my fine example of Japanese engineering from a friend of my neighbor. My neighbor was getting tired of storing this thing, and I was in need of some wheels, and the rest is history....[/img] [/img] [/img] [/img] hopefully my pics show up.... kinda a noob to the forums too..... Snoopy76
And I'm gonna need some help with this one as well...... I've kinda got it running, but I need to rebuild the carburetor, and tear into the clutch. It's not quite running right, and the throwout bearing is making some horrific noises unless i fully press the clutch pedal. I also need to adjust the valves. I thought I read somewhere on one of these forums that a person should retorque the head when this is done. Any ideas?? Quote Link to comment

Laecaon
some some odd reason, you need the tags to be the same case. You have uppercase in the beginning, and lower case at the end tag. You have this: IMG.../img You want this: img.../img or IMG.../IMG If I actually put the brackets on, the tags all go away. Also you forgot the first bracket on the last 2 photos. Snoopy76
sorry, it's a 1981, and is showing about 162,000 miles. Seems to be in fairly decent shape for its age, but has been sitting for several years that i know of Quote Link to comment

Snoopy76
ok, so the carb rebuild wasn't as bad as i had been lead to believe. thankfully, i have had some experience rebuilding other carbs, mostly motorcycle, but one volkswagen, and one carter four barrel. i got the carb back on the truck today, and what a difference it has made. i also adjusted the valves to the proper clearance. this thing is running so smooth now.... now if i could just get the brakes figured out... for some reason i'm not getting as stiff of a brake pedal as i would think would be proper. and the right rear continually locks up when the brakes are applied. i've vacuum bled the brakes, tried the pump method, and still not getting the results i would like Quote Link to comment
Snoopy76
i have another dumb question.... i'm not sure what the proper name of the vacuum operated piece in the stock air cleaner that controls the air coming out of the stock heat riser is called, but i need one. sadly this era of 720 is not to be found in any local salvage yard, so i;m hoping somebody might have an idea where i might be able to find a NEW one..... any suggestions?? another thing i would like to find would be new window rubber for the door windows and the pop out windows in the k/c.... wayno
And I'm gonna need some help with this one as well...... I thought I read somewhere on one of these forums that a person should retorque the head when this is done. Any ideas?? If you press the clutch in and the noise goes away, it's not likely the throwout bearing, it is likely the transmission bearings are shot, you need to empty the tranny fluid and check the color, anything other than yellowish is likely bad, and silver is really bad, and chunks of metal on the drain magnet, well that's really really bad. Snoopy76
nothing personal wayno, but i really hope you're wrong.... some little nagging doubt in the back of my mind says you're not though. what scares me is the dollar signs that are now running through my head. i'm not scared of the prospect of tearing into another transmission mechanically, but i am financially..... if that makes any sense. it sure would be nice if i could work on my truck inside though, because rolling around in the driveway is getting old, plus it's started another series of rain storms again today Quote Link to comment
