Revival of Little Miss Sunshine ('72 510) Found a 280zx hub

Recommended Posts

dude.. ebay shopping is the best way to go for a radiator... I've bought several 100% aluminum radiators for different cars.. all of them have been on point, and cheap. i'm running one in my 510 right now.

Like this one?  Has anyone tried one of these?  Hard to believe it would fit in the engine bay with a shroud.  Maybe without the shroud it would work.  Kind of pricey.

Been on a hiatus this week. I was having issues with my daily, so now I'm back in the garage working on the dime. Started fabricating the engine crossmember, and drilling out the holes for the 280zx coilovers. Still waiting for my trans crossmember to arrive. My goal is to have a rolling chassis ready for the engine and trans to drop in by next weekend.

Accomplished a lot this weekend towards getting my car back on all four wheels. Saturday started out rough. I jacked up the rear end to change out the rear wheels, and the front decided to fall off the jack stands. I do like the look of a Datsun slammed on the ground....

After I got the car back on it's jack stands I got to work on drilling out the holes on my cambe plates. One fits perfectly and the other needs a little bit of "persuasion" to fit. My coilovers are 99% completed, and the only thing I', waiting for is a set of 280zx hubs. I'm hoping to weld the engine crossmember at work this week, so I can start reassemble the front suspension and brakes.

I also received my Ratsun wrenches decal this weekend. Now she's official! :D

Finally found my way back to the garage. Test fit the newly welded engine crossmember to the engine mounts. The mounts are a little tight, but after some pushing and shoving the bolt holes lined up. Hoping to sandblast and paint the crossmember this week or next so everything can go back together.

Had some trouble finding the right bolts and nuts. It's been a while since I last removed it. lol

Finally have the precious clearance needed for the oil pan.

small update. Finally sandblasted the cross member. Going to paint it tomorrow after work, and then start to install the front suspension. Still looking for a 280zx hub if anyone has one. At this point I don't care if it's from another country I just need a hub that isn't bent.

Installed the hub to the strut assembly, and then realize that I wanted to replace the lower ball joints, along with replace the missing wheel bearing in the other hub. Luckily AutoZone had everything available, and tomorrow morning I should have the ball joints. Hoping to drop the motor and trans in this weekend.

Been busy in the garage. Last Friday I assembled all the new parts, and Saturday night I had the car on all four wheels. Sunday wasn't the best day, but by the end of the day the engine was in the car. I was stuck on the steering linkage and the engine would not move any further back. So after two days of hammering, bruising my fingers, and a lot of swearing the linkage broke free!

Currently the engine is in place, but the transmission is not. The tail shaft is hitting the top of the transmission tunnel, so tomorrow after work I might grab the saw and cut a portion of the tunnel out for more clearance. Also may have to cut a piece of the battery tray so the throttle body will clear as well. All in all I'm tired, frustrated, and ready to quit. But I feel like this is how most project cars are, so I'm satisfied with the progress.
