Tristin
Are there any pictures of you actually putting the engine in?- like mount or crossmember fabrication? Quote Link to comment
2JZ260z
Oops! I put the engine in the wrong car! Crap... I can show you the engine bay, but I failed takin pics :( Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Hmmm So this is what Im trying to make happen. The two Supras Ive mentioned are actually my boss'. He has one complete one, and one stripped one with some collision damage. We are planning to fix it all and still have a driving Supra for far less than buying on complete... but hes starting to question it. He was thinking about looking for another shell with no damage and just parting out the one we have (then I could hook you up with some gauges lol). He owned a 260z about a year ago and sold it to free up some funds since it was low on the project list (which included two different Supras, two hacki-rokus, a 2G Eclipse, a 1G Talon, and a 74 Celica). I showed him that video that popped up of the parking lot drifiting and he loved it. Ive been trying to convince him to part the wrecked Supra to get his money back, then search out a Z body for the 2J and Getrag. Then hes a winner on all accounts: he has his drift project and he gets his Z. How easy was the swap? I think if I can show him how simple it is, he might be more easily convinced to do it. Between he and I, we have all the tools and skills, but I think it would have to be a pretty easy swap for him to give up a Supra. Quote Link to comment
2JZ260z
TBH man, the swap (mods I had to do) were this. Source rear-sump oil pan so engine will fit behind x-member Use plasma cutter to cut off original mounts Set engine in and mock up dimensions for mounts (most time consuming because obvious reasons. I'm pretty good with CAD so I did mine in that and my buddy has a waterjet. Mission accomplished) After that, took stock mount from W58 and added some spacers; put 4 holes through the tranny tunnel to a BIG square plate. 4 bolts on either side hold the tranny in place. Then just had to get the drive shaft made, and voila! Shit fits.. After that its just wiring up the ECU and car so that everything works, but they have pinout PDF's for that! Then I'd suggest upgraded suspenion, chassis stiffening, BUSHINGS, and if you do the driveshaft, upgrade the knuckles on front rear. If you have R180, maybe get R200 or the Subie LSD? Tristin
Sounds easy enough... Thats an cake swap for this shop then. Fingers crossed I get a Z in here. Quote Link to comment
Npdavies.
Beta Motorsports sells a crossmember for an S30, for a 2JZ. It's weld-in and around $350+. Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Psh even easier, thanks NP Im usually not one to ask for spoon-fed info, but I know nothing about Zs otherwise I would just tell my boss' whats what. Im try8nig hard to get another good project going over the Supra, but who knows. There dont seem to be too many Z shells in the area up here. I see one or two, but they all have collision damage which I want to avoid since our drift Supra has it as well. No damage would be a good selling point on the swap. Quote Link to comment

2JZ260z
Tellin' you this car is just cake to work on, it handles amazingly with just a suspension mods (I put illuminas on it and it handles like its on rails) and TONS of room in the engine bay :3 Parts are easy to come by, and if you want "race" adjustability, you can get the parts from AZ-Zcar pretty cheaply. 2JZ's also come pretty cheap (if you CAN get a USDM one though) Quote Link to comment
Tristin
Was just worried about the install... We have everything else taken care of. We have multiple 2Jz's, R154's, and a getrag. We even have a 2Jz swapped S13. My boss has been working on them for years. Were an actual shop so we can source any parts we need. I just needed ammunition to sway him toward an easier swap than fixing the Supra. You've been a big help. Quote Link to comment
2JZ260z
No prob! Yeah, if you can stuff one in a 240sx, the Z will be SUCH an easy time lol. So yeah...those stock TRD Gauges....Do want if you part it out :3 How much you think he'd let the getrag go for? Quote Link to comment
2JZ260z
Anyone down for some Forza 4? Im about to hop on. DATSUN DRIFT EVENT! Add "Novaborn XB" SO SEXY! Other note. Heres the new Radiator + Fans, and BRE Light covers. Engines out for the rebuild now :3 Got the head nice n clean. Time for port and polish! Also got all new ARP hardware <3 Quote Link to comment
jalen
so what's the plan for the z? a sleeper? drift car? daily driver? Quote Link to comment
Tristin
If my boss owns a 2J then he will keep the Get; theres no way he would part with it. If he sold the 2J, then Im sure he would get rid of the 6spd since he wouldnt need it anymore. Im sure he wouldnt ask for less then 4K. You can get them through Toyota for like $7500. Ill keep you in mind if he decides to part with the gauges... youre first on the list. Quote Link to comment
