metalmonkey47
Interesting. I heard about those from an MG guy last week at AZ. Is there any benefit to a gear reduction starter in a stock compression engine other then reduction in current draw and weight? (My understanding is that gear reduction starters are typically lighter) Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Be honest I think its more a BLiNG Factor I have used the stock ones forever even with flattop pistons. Price difference is huge. Weight to me is the same. torq? well you have 2 cylinders less to move From a Brit car standpoint IM sure its 10x better than a British made starter Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Nissan makes them. I have a Maxima starter on my truck. Spins slightly slower but with way more torque. If cold and or battery low this the one to have. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
I had one.Drove me nuts.I had a local shop take a factory one and increase the torque.Much more gooder. Quote Link to comment

Z-train
I have a double yellowheaded Amazon that used to live in a car dealership. She does a perfect Chrysler starter. So i hear gear reductions enough in the house. She also does a Ford that cranks but will not light. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I always used to laugh when Canon would get in his Lincoln and there would be a Chrysler starter sound effect. Quote Link to comment

I was at the track one weekend and the aftermarket GR truck starter crapped out (like all starters on a BBC). I ended up swapping nose parts and used the racecar spare in the truck to get it going. If your starter has a one piece nose with a tin plate that is screwed inside the nose to keep the gears in place, forget everything I just said, it won't work. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Yeah those are just Hitachi units sold by Tilton "Super Starters. seem them in a shop for Chevys I sad Dam dont that look like a 280zx GR unit and noticed they said made in Japan So I new already back then. I was just wondering if anybody tried this TSI Unit I had listed above. Defdes on here(also the realm) has one but for his race car) I just wanted to know any body use it as a daily driver. Where nes does alot of starter use. Race cars a starter will last a last time I think. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The tilton brand GR starter should be twice as good, since they are twice the price of the nissan GR starter. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=23300-N5903R being said being close to the same price. Nissan is a rebuilt unit.
