Danny
Does any one know where to get a copper head gasket for a L20B? Thanks Danny Quote Link to comment
hitch
I orderd one from the local Auto Value a few weeks ago. I'm sure any auto parts store could get one in a day or so. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You planning a turbo motor? Quote Link to comment
Danny
Yes going to start a turbo build soon but first need to bulid a L2300. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
local Auto Value ??????????? I think that is really is the FELPRO shim spacer. There is a place that sells them like 100$ or so. Quote Link to comment
ddrum
What are these copper headers for? (noob question) Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Does any one know where to get a copper head gasket for a L20B? Thanks Danny It's a solid copper head gasket. Copper is 'soft' enough to form a good seal and won't blow out. Yes going to start a turbo build soon but first need to bulid a L2300. Danny you should really see about having the block O ringed instead of the copper gasket. Quote Link to comment
Danny
Ya I was going to look into getting the block O ringed but have not had time to see what it would cost. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well you will need to have bored so get a shop to do it while there. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
what does O ringing do for it. does it eliminate the head gasket all together? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I don't think so as the gasket still has to seal the water passages and one oil feed hole up into the head for the cam. The wire in the O ring tightly pinches the gasket and seals it fully. Quote Link to comment
Suspect
Another noob question, would a copper head gasket be better for my LZ motor than a regular felpro? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I don't see how really. Regular gaskets are adequate and I never hear of people using the copper ones. Quote Link to comment

justin 620
Would you be able to get an overbore copper head gasket? Because if you bore the block out, the gasket would hangout into the cylinder, right? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Depends on the overbore,... 2mm would be a lot and that would only be 1mm all the way round. The gasket hole may already be larger than the bore to begin with. I wouldn't use one. If I had a really high compression or were running some kind of boost I would O ring it. Quote Link to comment
troyt
The copper gasket makers like Clark and Hussey will make you a gasket in any desired thickness and bore, a real bonus when you are dialing in a desired compression ratio. Problem is the bore is usually round instead of oval, so you gotta plan around that. For high CRs, a stock gasket sometimes proves to be inadequate. Other than the o-ring option, a MLS gasket is usually the best alternative, but nobody makes one for the L4. I used an MLS on my race L6 and was thinking I could get one of those and trim it down for an L4, anybody ever try that? Copper is soft and grabs onto the head and block surface quite well, but with proper machining of these surfaces prior to assembly, they really aren't required for most purposes. datzenmike
The L4 has an oil drain back hole at the back so you might use the 3,4,5,6 cylinder holes and graft the very front timing chain area on to the front of it??? Quote Link to comment
