Any tips for trimming SSS choke cable without destroying it?

I was going to get snippy with wire dykes, but i cant completely withdraw the cable like i could with an el cheapo napa choke cable...

Put some butt lice on it. It'll slowly eat it away. Then buy some "Wagdattos" BL cream to remove.

Ya know, i thought about that, but with the economy the way it is, even butt lice are getting expensive...

Try this. First twist the frayed (?) ends together. Clean the inner cable end with spray brake cleaner, let dry and dip in flux. Heat up your soldering iron and lightly tin the end. It will go into the socket without further fraying. Extra length of outer cover? Loop it.

No fray, new cable, over a foot of excess cable I need to shorten

Clean it, and solder it like above, where you want to cut it. Then use an abrasive cut-off disk.

a dremel with the abrasive cut off wheel as mentioned....high speed, light touch. You can use a couple of wire twisties(kind that come with some garbage bags) close to together and cut in between.

flux and solder to tin a good 1-2in section of it and then cut.

 

I recommend liquid flux and a finer core solder.
