ggzilla
Looks like a Nissan 71-series transmission. The Western Transmission Forge gearboxes are much bigger. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Pre '80 truck, fairly sure not Z car. Quote Link to comment
DatDoug
Its a Manual. Get a shift lever & put it in its place to see if its a 5 or 4 speed. L16, L18 or L20? Pull them plugs & check them out. Check the oil. Look under oil cap for emulsion (milky oil) hook up a battery to the starter & check compression. Quote Link to comment
elmerfudpucker
Its a 5 spd and it turned over by hand a bit then seemed like the pressure stopped it. Didn't have a guage on hand but I have a gut feelin that its good. No burn smell or milky oil. The goon will have a backup! Guess part of my tax money is gone! Guess I finally make it to a CL Datto related buy that someone (insert DatDoug ;) )didnt beat me to first! But it was also about a mile from the house.. Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
your drive line is going to be to long without shortening. Your 4 speed is short like the olden days style ..square pan. You will need one the length of the short one in picture. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Pre '80 truck, fairly sure not Z car. Ah, I see I didn't say 5 speed. It is. 4 speeds will always have the rectangular cover plate with 6 bolts and a flat round breather cap on it. 5 speeds don't have this A shifter is unreliable for ID-ing a 4/5 speed. The shifter is often very sloppy and even a 4 speed has a 'space' above reverse often mistaken for a 'fifth' gear. Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Truck 5 speed... z cars didnt have the extra gear sensors. I have the same trany and this was my conclusion while researching id ;) Later Joel Quote Link to comment
