The SR20 is infamous for having two bell-housing patterns.

But the FWD KA probably won't fit in your engine bay for other reasons.

KA FWD vs RWD differences include:

•FWD: Distributor at rear of engine

•RWD: Distributor similar to L-series engine

•Different location of engine mounts

•Different accessory brackets

•Inlet manifold point opposite direction

Yes, and most of them have lots of talk like 'no won't work', but few details. For example, I could not find photos or diagrams of the two differing bell housing patterns. I did find a few people saying they were the same ...

Waterways point in a different direction.

Mounts are set further back on a FWD block.

Bell housing configuration is slightly off. Like 3 of the bolts are 1/4" either way.

There are so many Altima engines available.

It would be nice if they worked. If.

I met a guy months ago who spent months trying to get an Altima motor into a 620.

He wouldn't give up due to how much cheaper an Altima motor was compared to the 240sx's.

He finally gave up and got a KA24E from a truck with all the 240sx supporting parts.

No they're not the same, yes it will work providing you have fab skills. Cut out a spot for the dist in the firewall, make some custom mounts. Make an adapter plate for the trans. Joe's chump car has a FF SR20DE in it, with a bellhousing adapter for the L series transmission.

It's gone somewhere. We established that RWD and FWD KA engines are materially different.

Question: Will a Ka24 out of a front wheel drive car work with a rear wheel drive tranny? Is it the same motor?

Answer (summary) Not the same motor. No, it won't fit a RWD trans but you can make an adapter plate.

We are talking both kinds of KA. The front oil sump pans work with certain crossmembers (like a Datsun 210). With other, you need a rear oil sump.
