73DATSON
Ok I have a 73 510 2door with a L20B and 5speed tranny. The speedo cable that can with the car had a hard 90 going into the tranny, I think it was too short. Now it snap and I need to order a new one. Since I'm not sure on what tranny I have how I order a new cable? Anyone?THX. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
A 620 truck cable assy will be much longer. '74 and up should do it. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
Take it to a speedometer shop and save yourself the agony of buying the wrong length part several times. They have "universal" replacements that they route and cut to fit. Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
Speedo cables are still available through AutoZone online. I think you order the one for an auto wagon, they're supposed to be longer. Quote Link to comment

I think you order the one for an auto wagon, they're supposed to be longer. I think the late '71-'72 3N71B auto cables are driven from the pass side and will be 'slightly' longer, I'll check. I used a short driver's side 4 speed cable on my long pass side 5 speed. I completely re-routed it down over the tranny bell and to the pass side and it works just fine. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Well the auto tranny 510 does go on the passenger side. I now have a dogleg, and the cable is way to long, it is on the driver side. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Too long will still work and there's lots of ways to 'hide' the slack. I had a 720 speedo for a trassfer case on my 620 for a year or so. Now that was long! It looped over the rad cap and around the air filter. Quote Link to comment

Well that's how mine came, the cable runs over the bell on the tranny. But it's still broke. Quote Link to comment
Just Joel
Just bought one from rock auto for a stock application 510... They don't differentiate between auto trans and manual so they stock the longer of the two (as stated the auto trany is longer) and I have confirmed that the cable is about ten inches longer than stock four speed cable. Is it long enough for the five speed? Don't know yet but it is longer ;) Later Joel Quote Link to comment
Creepy Cruiser
Oreilly auto parts has then for cheap too. (like $12). They are for the auto, (70" long) and even fit a KA trans (which has the cog on the pass side too.) http://www.oreillyau...C0073&ppt=C0338 Quote Link to comment
Dat510_Chris
Just bought one last December from autozone for a 620 5 speed in my 510, it was under $15 Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Go with a custom one, they are only $45, so why go with some cheap part that is too long? Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
Go with a custom one, they are only $45, so why go with some cheap part that is too long? Because Datsun people are cheap, and they want to buy the $12 one. Quote Link to comment
