erikcarter
I picked this up from a guy at work that used to race dwarf cars and he had this one left over. I paid 150 for it, it is out of a 85 Celica GT a LSD with 390 gears. Plus it has the brackets for a 4 link including the panard bar in the back. I just need to cut off the coil spring pads and weld some coilover mounts on the back and the housing is ready. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Keep this well documented.. if it pans out, I'm very interested in doing this too. Quote Link to comment
jesusno2
Good choice my only issue with the car toyota axles is how strong they are the axle spline count are about the same and that's kinda the weak point to a wagon or roadster h-190 Here's a good link for ya http://www.aeu86.org/index/axle-amp-differential-celica-supra-(ma45-46-47)-diff-swap-amp-info_/cat/9/topic=5762/post=92692 Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
for now I am running a L20b so no big deal. If I do a motor swap we will see how it works Quote Link to comment
Shagy
subscribing to this... I'm going to try and hunt down the year. from what I've googled...the 85 is a IRS. Wonder how the Rear disc conversions are. Get some measurments up!! =) Quote Link to comment
jesusno2
Well I have a ka in my wagon with a LSD H-190 I'm gonna find out the hard way I know it lol! Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
Jesusno2 Thanks for the link that is what I need Quote Link to comment
littlejason
Unless he put an LSD in this, I don't think it's LSD. Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
so I measured the new diff and it is 53 and 1/8th and the one in my goon is 52 and 7/8ths. Awesome! Quote Link to comment
littlejason
...but that part is awesome! Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
I spin the yoke and both axles spin the same direction so that means LSD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
So after my son's soccer party may brother in law and my father in law helped me tear down the rearend. I was originaly thinking of using the mounts to put a four bar setup in my goon but after looking under the car for a while I have decided that I am going to do a ladder bar system like Jester's goon. But for the summer I am going to just weld on some new spring perches and throw it in the car so I can enjoy it. Next winter I will take on the job of putting in a ladder bar system. erikcarter
Here is a closeup oic of the diff Quote Link to comment
HRH
Unless that has clutches in the tubes or something, that sure looks like an open diff to me. Spiders in the center, not a clutch unit. Did you try spinning one wheel forward and one wheel back? I thought all the Japan lsds were locking until breakaway torque, whereas domestic lockers can operate opposite of that. My buddy and I argued this point to death because he has a Jeep with lockers, but they lock under stress and are normally open. Kind of interesting. I prefer the factory kind where it's locked if there's equal torque at both wheels. Quote Link to comment
jesusno2
I gotta say dude that's a open diff if I ever saw one Quote Link to comment
DRIVEN
Smoked spiders can act like a LSD. Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
I emailed the guy I got it from to see what he says Quote Link to comment
Shagy
we also need to confirm the year too.... but the width looks like its workable. Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
Thanks for letting me know before I did a bunch of fab work, I have found a LSD but I am waiting for my buddy to come back to work Monday to see what he will do to make it right. Quote Link to comment
littlejason
I have bought many of these from the junkyard. The dwarf car guys like to have a selection of ratios on hand. And they don't care about LSD because they weld 'em up or use a spool. Quote Link to comment
hang_510
so I measured the new diff and it is 53 and 1/8th and the one in my goon is 52 and 7/8ths. Awesome! good to know. most ive seen were too wide to attempt. IIRC toyota only offered a locking diff, not LSD (maybe only on trucks??? :? ) Quote Link to comment
Stupid_fast
good to know. most ive seen were too wide to attempt. IIRC toyota only offered a locking diff, not LSD (maybe only on trucks??? :? ) Some MK2's, cressida's, and the celica GTS had the 7.5" LSD's apparently. I'm trying to find some info about the cressida stuff but the forum I get info from is down. I'd be interested in this swap if it works. What about some AE86 forums? Those are solid axle, and popular drift cars I'm sure there are some LSD options. Quote Link to comment
Sinnful
If it is a 7.5" ring gear you should be able to use 86-95 front IFS truck/4runner lockers/LSD Quote Link to comment
erikcarter
I think it is the smaller ring gear Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Toyota LSD will bolt into some H165 carriers. So possibly could be used with 610 or 710 wagon rear axle assembly. Tomei sells these. 165 mm = 6.5 inches 190 mm = 7.5 inches 1 Quote Link to comment
