Toyota axles are pretty spendy and then to get bigger brakes (which are still smaller than the waggy brakes) takes a bit more work and $

 

The Toyota axle brake upgrade is actually quite easy since he should be considering taking care of those upon the install into a vehicle. And it depends on which year axle you get to determine which parts you use. But for the most part, you use Landcruiser rotors, and calipers from an 86-89 4-runner V-6. And it is a bolt on deal after you trim the tin dust shields.

Too funny ... I know that guy (sort-of: I've met him once or twice, he posts on another board I frequent), and I actually took that picture of him on Hell's Gate (2nd pic in your post) at last year's goneMOAB event.
