Mini-L320
Not a stock Fuel Gauge. Its a VDO Fuel Gauge. Have it wired up just like the stock one but doesnt seem to give me an accurate reading. When car is empty of Fuel, gauge reads 1/2. When car has full gas tank reading goes over "Full" on Gauge. when car has anything below 3/4 of gas thats when the Fuel Gauge Needle starts to go all over the place. The only time it doesnt move is when Tank is Completely Full :D Not making good Ground? Sender is Busted? Fuel Gauge is Bad? Where can I find a New Fuel Sender? Quote Link to comment
Mini-L320
Oh and I've had this Fuel Gauge put on since the beginning of summer. It just started bothering me now tho. ;) Quote Link to comment
wayno
I do beleave that VDO type gauges need there own VDO senders also, I have never had a aftermarket gauge work with a stock sending unit. I have had a 1971 datsun gauge work properly with a 1984 nissan fuel tank though. wayno Quote Link to comment
izzo
i believe its the ohms, you need the correct for it to work right? iirc 0-90 Quote Link to comment

Once a design is perfected why make a new one every year or for every car??? If the senders are the same the gauges must be similar in operation too. My '78 gad an '82 2wd and at least two 4X4 720 tanks in it and they all worked just fine. Quote Link to comment
Z-train
Sending units/guages work off of "ohms".If they don't match-it ain't gonna work.Find out teh factory ohm rannge and then the VDO.If's it's a mismatch,well-there's yer problem,Vern. Quote Link to comment

Mini-L320
i believe its the ohms, you need the correct for it to work right? iirc 0-90 Is 0-90 Ohm Range Pertaining to a 210 or any Datsun? Cause if it is, then i just found an Autometer Fuel Gauge Range from 0-90 Ohms :D Quote Link to comment
izzo
I believe 0-90 is all datsuns, but not positive. i think 0-90 is actually a common range, i know autometer sells em, so must be popular? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
FSM: Full reads 10 ohm. empty reads 80 ohm. 0 to 90 ohm is close enough range. Quote Link to comment

Paul G.
FSM: Full reads 10 ohm. empty reads 80 ohm. 0 to 90 ohm is close enough range. Wow, that is true even for my '66 411! Full is 8 ohms and empty is 84 ohms. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yup. Once you get something working why re-invent or change it every year or model. Same with the oil pressure gauges. The 280zx, 200sx (S110, S12) 720, Maxima and likely the altimas sentras and any dash with an oil pressure gauge use the same sender on the block. All the ones I've seen are the same. DeathByNissan55
Sorry to wake this from the grave, but would a fuel sender with 70 ohms empty, 10 ohms full, be too different than stock? I'd be using 77 datsun 280z stock fuel gauge, and according to you guys higher up, its 90 ohms empty and 0 ohms full. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I get empty 80 ohms (or more)and full 10 ohms (or less). At worst it will read empty early but that's better that showing something in the tank. Quote Link to comment
Draker
Could offset the reading with a 10 ohm resister if it's worth your time. Quote Link to comment
DeathByNissan55
For some reason, using the 70 E/10F makes the fuel cell I had planned out, a lil less than 100$ more.....I wonder why..... 90F/0E is cheaper, but then I guess I'd need to use an op amp or something.....Or just write the bottom leg of E over the F and paint the bottom leg of the E black so that it looks like an F haha.
