nismo dr
Why?!?!? because he already has a 3,000 hp engine and needs moar powah "California developer "Big" Mike Harrah already owns a 3,000-hp hot rod powered by a PT boat's V12. His next project? A Peterbuilt-based rod with a 24-cylinder Detroit Diesel, churning 3,400 hp via superchargers and nitrous. Un. Holy. Harrah actually started with two 24-cylinder engines scavenged from a Hatteras yacht, with one destined for a stretched 1984 359 Peterbuilt." Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic
The 3400 HP is impressive, but you have to remember that the 24V71 put out 1800HP in stock form. At 2500RPM. 3400 is only slightly more than twice stock, and the DD was overbuilt anyway. The 24V71 was a very limited production run for Marine use. I worked on 6-71s and 6V-53s in the Navy. Detroit 2-strokes were VERY reliable engines. And you could make them reversible with a simple timing gear change. Quote Link to comment

nismo dr
I am now thoroughly disappointed - :hmm: "The engine came with four superchargers that do the actual work and are hidden from view; the eight superchargers on top are falsies that only turn for show." Quote Link to comment
