FHI was established on July 15, 1953 when five Japanese companies joined to form one of Japan's largest manufacturers of transportation equipment. I can't seen to find who these five were but at the time Nissan, Toyota, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi were all established car makers.

From '68 to '99, FHI was 20% owned by Nissan, who acquired the stake in 1968 during a period of government-ordered merging of Japanese auto industry firms in order to improve competitiveness. FHI is linked to Nissan, Toyota and Subaru. Ever wonder why the 'Yoda four piston truck calipers will fit a 240/260 Z car? And bolt right on?? Or why a Subaru LSD rear end will fit a 510? How much Ford stuff will fit a Chevy?

Suabru is also Japanese for the word 'unite'.
