Pacific coast Datsun
In the next few days ill be helping a friend flip / reverse his crossmember in his 71 510. He's swapping in a SR 20 with a front sump oil pan so this mod is a must. Ill be taking pics & a writeup for anybody else who wants to do the same mod. 1 Quote Link to comment

Jesse C.
I have a jig for clamping down the crossmember, in case you should need one! Quote Link to comment
dennis
Are you going to be making your own brackets on the crossmember or modify the motor mounts? Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
Jefe- Ty Zerow- bring it down when your ready..will work for food  Jesse- that would've been sweet. Youll see how i kept it square in the pics. Dennis- the owner will be modifying the stock 510 mounts. Ok got busy today, took only 3 hours & bam ! as it looks stock, imagine looking down into the engine bay...... carefully marked lines. the upright ones must be straight up & down.. before i cut i welded a bar to keep it all square. I used a cut off wheel on my grinder... & slid into it's new position... welded in place... at this point i cut off the brace. For looks & strength we decided to cap the ends of the mounts... this lip must be removed so it doesnt interfere with the steering linkage... prepped for primer / paint... 3 coats of gloss black....... Ill include pics of the modd'd motor mounts soon. I may be making that part as well. Quote Link to comment

Jester
PCD: Did you lay out your vert. lines 90 deg. off the bottom of the crossmember? Just curious. Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
PCD: Did you lay out your vert. lines 90 deg. off the bottom of the crossmember? Just curious. This was a low tech mod :D I simply welded the bar across the part before cutting, reversed & welded in place then cut off the bar. It lined up & bolted back up up w/no issues. To mark the cut lines i set it on level ground then used my level to mark the lines. I should be doing another crossmember soon, ill take more pix for sure. Quote Link to comment
Pacific coast Datsun
I started on another 510 crossmember for a friend today. Same concept as the 1st one except this time my daughter wanted to help... then i get it down to bare metal... & cut away ! more pix when it's done. Quote Link to comment
