D@tsuks
I used 80's vw rabbit strut inserts for my 280z struts. Can"t remember exactly how much shorter they were but it's 2 - 3 inches. Quote Link to comment
sssr20det510
spring rate depends on how you drive and how stiff you want it, 200-250 is what most people run. Quote Link to comment

Are you saying the Eibach spring rate is lower than rated? Bouncing means your shock isn't damping properly, regardless of what spring rate you're using. Quote Link to comment

djaztek12
Interesting, thanks for clarification no problem.but how come it seems like the old school tuff work the best  those tanabi spring and the carerra coil overs are old like 7 years old, but there were new. and it was a good price. i guess they don't make parts like they use too. Quote Link to comment
180Bsss
cool thank you guys for the info does someone know if all the vw rabbit scirocco shocks are the same diameter? cuz my brother has sum vw rabbit shocks in his 280zx struts and they dont fit right in the strut tube Quote Link to comment
djaztek12
i there a bit smaller. they need to be modified. :o Quote Link to comment
180Bsss
update i ended up getting sum vw sensa trac shocks the diameter of the shock is smaller than the 280zx strut tube but i think once the gland nut smashes the shock down it should stay in place Quote Link to comment
djaztek12
thats, cool good luck Quote Link to comment
dennis
The popular 280zx strut/shock combo is the MR2 inserts. I believe they are 2" shorter than stock 280zx inserts. Quote Link to comment

Pedro
Wow they look short Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
This is exactly what I did with mine, but I used Koni red inserts and shorter/stiffer springs. the GC spring and collar look nicer than mine though :P Quote Link to comment
CorAce
300 lb seems like a lot, I got the same setup with 250lb and am thinking of dropping to 200lb for a DD. Quote Link to comment

180Bsss
this is the wagon on the ground that's how much travel i have the spring is fully compresed Quote Link to comment
CorAce
That seems about right; mine sits roughly the same height on uncut struts with the adjustment collar bottomed out. It looks like you should have another 2.5 – 3in left to drop? Don’t be afraid to use the whole range of travel. Were are you out of? Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
Just a word of caution, if you're on just regular replacement shocks and/or gas filled shocks, you're pretty close to the limit of them with the 300lb springs. Anything moar, and they will start to not be able to control the rebound of the springs well enough and the car will bounce like crazy. Trust me, I had my ~450lb/in springs on my Tokico Blues, and I looked like a retard whenever I went over bumps and bounced like a low rider. I got my VW Koni's in, set em to full stiff rebound, and the car rides BEAUTIFULLY meow, but I'd like them to be a bit stiffer... Quote Link to comment
