datzenmike
FYI that's an L20B water pump and clutch fan on there. It'll work fine but the Z pumps are larger inside. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Be sure to get the fan blades with it. The Z plastic fan is larger and the fan you have won't fit it. Here are the two types of pump/clutch fan sizes. L series on left Z on right. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/motorclutchfansLarge.jpg[/img]"] L series pump internal. Note the size of the impeller and the pump cavity. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/Lenginewaterpump.jpg[/img]"]http:/ Z pump with larger impeller and deeper pump cavity. Moves more water. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/motorLwaterpump.jpg[/img]"] Quote Link to comment
izzo
thanks mike! also looks like the L series even tho its shorter, is wider than the naps. thanks again its good to know Quote Link to comment
izzo
took it out wheeling today Did great, hell with a tire pressure gauge i was actually able to put the right tire pressure in there. one was flat, the rest had 10-15lbs  Bumped them up to 45, max is 50. Head gasket is going. Some smoking coming from tail pipe. Not blue smoke, but more like steam. She got hot once after driving hard for a couple hours. let it cool down and then trekked home. Throttle for some reason its starting to stick a little bit, just at idle. the piece that the throttle cable attaches to on the throttle shaft is fuckered up a little bit. Not sure what the deal is, but it just doesnt retract all the way on its own. It will if i just barely nudge it. Almost like the spring isnt pulling good enough. Ill take a look at it another day. Didn't have batteries so didn't take the camera. Went with my brother in law. We found a nice deep mud hole. the nissan went thru it no problems. his s10 blazer got stuck and i had to pull him out. Kids got wet, muddy, truck is covered in clay-mud goopy shit, inside and out. All in all a good day. Time to hit up napa auto parts and get some gaskets, new water pump and thermostat. datzenmike
Re-torque the head bolts when motor cold. No order just do them one at a time. L20B about 60 ft lbs. This may stop the smoke. Don't know what tires you have on her but inflate to the specs printed on the tire. 4X4 ing is usually best with lower air for traction but when at highway speed run at the manufacturer's recommendation. Never run under inflated. If carrying a heavy load raise the pressure toward maximum. The throttle shaft may be worn and the moving laterally and the throttle plates are rubbing and catching on the carb walls and hanging up. Possibly the throttle cable is a tad too tight also. Thanks Mike :D Its the 85, so Z24. 216k miles. Probly worth the 40 bux for a gasket kit and just replace. I am safe to use the same head bolts right? Or do these require new ones... Yeah i didnt know the tire pressure was that low, didnt have a gauge till today. She runs at 5 lbs below max, no particular reason. It doesnt go on road, just off :) The 1980 4x4 will be a daily driver here in about 2 weeks. Quote Link to comment
turbojunker
hemy makie is there a z water pump that doesnt have the fan clutch? Yeah, but I don't know the application. I would assume it's for a non A/C engine. That was all they had at the parts store when the water pump went out on my 720. Mine has the clutch, so I had to order it. Quote Link to comment
izzo
So trading this for the 510 was a no go. Didn't even get to meet the guy, had some shit happen on the way and was running really late, by the time i got cell signal to get ahold of the guy he was long gone. Fuck... So, went to my sisters house and we partied, then 4x4 on the trails out in rainier. This was my truck a few weeks ago. it was pretty fun, he decided to let me lead. Big mistake :D First he rear-ended me. No biggy since i got the tube bumper, all it did was make it so it felt like i had NOS  So i got up ahead of him a little bit, dropped in a mud hole, put it in 2wd and did a 3rd gear burnout. Shot up a good rooster tail and painted his truck with mud. FUN!!! My truck decided to take a shit cuz i ran thru some water, got the dizzy wet. Ill be figuring out a way to seal it up good next time. Later on thru the trail i hit him in the back, ended up pushing my front valance back and my radiator was ate by the fan. Oops :D Guess im buying a radiator for myself for my bday. Got sideways a little bit and tagged a tree behind the passenger door too. Quote Link to comment
izzo
new radiator, new hoses, different dizzy and cap, new fuses, i cleaned it up some. Still needs a bath, floor needs a good shampoo, i did vacuum it and got it cleaned up some. started wiping the insides a bit but called it good. Did the cleaning, some fluid changes and other stuff. put the key in it and she fired right up :D Thing is fucking dependable. Put it up for sale, found a quad i want to get if i sell it for cash, otherwise its up for trade for 620 KC or 521. Ill get some fresh pictures Friday, as i am going out there and washing it/cleaning out the bed. Might even run down to the car wash and pressure wash the engine bay. Don't care if it sells/trades. Just want another quad or a 620kc or 521 really bad. I would trade it for a 510 but don't think anyone really wants to lol.. Anyways. Drove it around for a while just to run it. If i have time i am going to pull the front end off the yellow truck and put it on this one. The one on the yellow truck is super straight. This will look a lot better with straight sheet metal on it. Quote Link to comment
