LeDevil
So I was at PIR last night when I saw a single cab short bed 620 hauling ass down the track obviously a V8. I went and talked to the guy about his truck and he told me he baught the V8 conversion kit from Baxters Auto Parts. The kit included everything to mount a 350 in your truck supposibily (?). New fire wall piece, Tranny tunnel, Motor Mounts, etc. Now I haven't called Baxters to confirm this yet but has anyone else heard of them selling such a Kit?? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Yes, in the 80s/early 90s. Quote Link to comment
mklotz70
Paula and I talked with the same guy. I didn't get the impression that he bought it in the '80's....seemed more like several years ago. His name is Brian. He's got a Ford 9" under the back. The firewall kit even is even premarked to drill the holes to put the heater back in. Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
True, but that doesn't mean the kit wasn't sitting around in a shop somewhere for 15 years. If the kit still existed you'd think SOMEONE would know where to get them. Quote Link to comment
small block chevy nut
hi guys, this is bryon, i called baxter auto parts, on the v-8 conversion, the part number is hooker header #12604 the price is $206.99, and the headers are part number #2139, and the price is $522.99 Quote Link to comment
LeDevil
So this kit is still around and availible then...right? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There was also one for a Buick 3.8/4.1 V6 #12616 and header #1116. Seehttp://www.the620.com/html/tech/v6-620.htm Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
so if it works for a truck y not for a dime if you tweek it a bit? I have a discount at baxters isn't the moter mounts for the 4.1 the same as a 350 i cant remember Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably are. Seen a lot of GM mounts, can't say I've noticed any differences in any of them. Cheaper to make one style fit all. Quote Link to comment
V-Dot
the 3.8 is a 350 with two piston chopped off isn't it? Quote Link to comment
kiznook
350 ci=5.73 Liter 5.735/8=0.717 Liter (per cyl.) now 3.8/6=0.633 liter (per cyl) but 4.3/6=0.717 Thus, using ROUGH math, the 4.3 is two cylinders shy of the 350. MOPAR TALK 318 ci=5.2 liter 5.2/8=0.65 3.9/6=0.65 Thus the 3.9L V6 is two cylinders short of a 318 (5.2) V8. IIRC the water pump for my 3.9 Dakota was the same as the one for 74 Dart (318) and 85 1/2 ton van Quote Link to comment
tnip
makes sense, allows them to use many of the same parts from the factory. still interesting, to me anyway. Quote Link to comment
Biscayne
The 4.3 does use the same mounts, you can pretty much interchange anything that bolts to the front or back with any small block Chevy too. General Motors, go figure. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
yah but what i was wondering if they mount the same? Quote Link to comment
