  1. Are these to be used with no stock seat mounts, just a flat floor?
  2. What was the horsepower and torque difference between a 280z and a 280zx? Reading specs on the web they’re stating the zx had less horsepower and torque. Both models are 2.8 liter fuel injected. Confusing Is it safe to say the 280z could have run the close ratio box also?
  3. Good clarification Mike. Thank you!
  4. What’s your thoughts on running a close ratio gearbox in a 510 with an L20b that’s 2.3 displacement? Torn between which five speed to run. Like the thought oh the lower ratio fifth in the close ratio but wonder on normal street drivability. Referring to the spread between fourth and fifth. Never drove a 280zx with one to have any feel for it
  5. L series Do all the close ratio five speeds have it? 80-83 non turbo 280zx is close ratio?
  6. What Datsun five speed transmissions with the standard gearshift pattern(5th above reverse) had a reverse lock out so you couldn’t grab reverse when downshifting from fifth? Did the close ratio gearbox have this feature? Seems the early five speed gearboxes didn’t have this feature.
  7. Forgot to mention, don’t use a chisel bit in the air gun. You want a flat surface on the bit to hit the stud. Cut of the chisel part of a bit off with a cutoff wheel to create a flat surface on the bit.
  8. Have had success on corroded and seized powerhead studs on outboard motors using an air chisel to impact on the stud. Have tension on the head and use the air chisel on the stud. Have a nut on the stud to not mushroom it over creating another problem. The impact of the air chisel breaks the bond of the corroded stud in the head. If you have access to a rivet gun works better for controlling the hit.

Bought an engine to get crank and block for a specific build I wanted to do. Engine had very little time on it. 87 mm bore pistons and rings with stock L20B rods and rod bearings. Full floating wrist pins. All good usable parts. Was used with 2.2 crank for a good pump gas large displacement L series engine. Will throw in the main bearing set also. Pistons and rings are Sealed Power Hypereutectic H832CP with Duroshield Coated Skirt. Hypereutectic; Duroshield Coated Skirt Bearings are Clevite

  10. Are Datsun 510 brake lines 37 degree or 45 degree double flares? Don’t think they are the Japanese bubble flares. What’s recommended for brake line material. Original equipment type plated steel, stainless steel or copper nickel?
  11. Looks like the starting high bids were a good thing. Three hours left and over $130k!! Very impressive. Quite the testament to your build Matt.
  12. Nice work. Did you 3D print the rear hatch torsion bar cover?
  13. First day out of the gate and already at $50k. That’s one heck of a start and still over six days left on the auction.
  14. Very Nice! Even smog legal for California. Having a great start to the auction.
  15. Want to buy the mirrors. How do you want to proceed?

They’re still in business. Their website seems to be down or something. I was trying to do a USPS shipment online this morning and got a similar thing. Give them a call Monday morning.
  17. If looking to new seats check out Procar by Scat. https://procarbyscat.com/ Good variety of styles from OEM looking to high back race seats. Bought two sets for my 510 wagons.
  18. Going to try a distributor that has only 6 degrees mechanical. So 12 degrees plus 15 is only 27 total. Going to play and see how this distributor works out. If I need more mechanical advance I can file the advance slot. Have been welding the advance slot to reduce the mechanical advance in a distributor that had 14 degrees which gave 28 at the crank. This distributor limited my initial to keep from pinging and the SU’s didn’t like it. Also had weaker springs so the advance came in to quickly. Would like to play with stiffer springs but haven’t found anything yet. Any suggestions for stiffer springs?
  19. Read somewhere that dual SU’s like around 15 degrees initial, is this true?
  20. Just saw on the chart a note that says: Note: If distibuter is checked on the vehicle, double the RPM and degrees in tables below to get crankshaft figures. Very good distributor chart in that link Darin provided.
  21. Mike, if the spec page for the distributor calls out 10 degrees mechanical advance at 1800 rpm at the distributor. Is that 20 degrees advance at the crankshaft? Do the degrees double like the rpm does? Thanks
