  1. so if i cut the z22 block by 1 mm what would be the diameter of the bore? would i need standard size or over size z24 or ka24 pistons, also both of those pistons come in dished and flat top with valve releifs, i would like to run forged pistons either way
  2. hey what would you want for the newer hitachi??? i could really use it!!! im hoping it will solve my problems

    L20 Head gasket

it is not a crossflow head like the z24 and z22 engines, it is there because it was designed that way i honestly do not know why the japs designed it that way, as far as your smoke and coolant problem you may have a blown head gasket but is there oil in your coolant? is there coolant in your oil? if you do replace the head gasket make sure that you check the head and block for truness otherwise you will keep blowing gaskets, you may want to consider a set of piston rings if it was smoking before the gasket blew
  4. hey farmer i hope you dont laugh at me but will you explain putting it on cam sprocket 2, maybe not necessarily how to do it but what the effect it has is, i guess im confused because if you wanted to play with the timing couldnt you just play with the distributor, i guess your changing the timing of the valves not the spark
  5. hey farmer thanks for posting the pic, i have a question for you, how did that engine compare to your stocker, can you guestimate the increase in performance for me on a scale form 0 to 100 percent, thanks everybody for posting keep the pics and info coming!!!!
  6. good story, great truck, what i wanna know is what was wrong with it that your dad couldnt get fixed? you said he is a mechanic but you had it fixed in no time?
  7. well because its fairly cheap to build an l20b i think i will do just his, i have in my posession a brand new l20b ready to drop in, i will get a peanut head, get it rebuilt, throw a fat cam in it, throw on my mikunis and call it good, all the while i will save dough back just incase i want more power, if i like the l20 i will keep it, if not i will get an sr20
  8. that sounds really good, but dollar for dollar i could almost buy a sr20det, 220 hp off the crate, a few simple mods push it to 250, only thing is then i will need mods to just about every single chassis part to be able to handle the power, i am a welder by trade so thats no problem, but the time factor sucks
  9. the l20b that is in my truck now i can use for parts, and actually it sounds better to me to swap a motor than rebuild mine, i really love the nostalgia but damn i cant get power out of these motors, so with the big bore 2.3 and a ported head, fat cam and mikunis im good to 150hp max!! that blows ass, i could sell my mikunis, and my 4 speed and my l20b and buy a damn sr20det, the only thing that sacres me about the sr20det is the computer tuning and trying to get all of my speedo temp, oil pressure, and all of that shit woring correctly, i want to keep my stock gauges and tach, i dont mind fabbing up engine mounts but damn i really dont wanna cut up my trans tunnel
  10. thanks, i will look into jason gray, i guess it would be better to run a z22 block, then you have timing chain, and water pump issues dont you? i know rubberman is running an lz22 but he has to run an electric fan and had some other problems
  11. oh yeah i forgot to add i have a fresh 5 speed tranny, once again like that matters, my question was about the engine, i can do trannys and differentials (lsd)
  12. well yes it is going in a 620, not that that matters, its gonna be a whenever the weather is nice driver, i dont mind buying premium, thus the peanut head, i guess you could classify it as a show truck (not that looks has anything to do with performance factor) but i will drive it not baby it, as far as bonneville i was thinking something more along the lines of sealing off the cab, adding o2 tanks in the bed, and orbiting the earth a few times, maybe with the occasional trip to the moon, come on man its an l20!!!! i guess what i am asking is about the z22 crank conversion and a good source for some nice valves and rods
  13. ha they came stock with forged rods and crank
  14. oh come on 31 views and not one of you has a response???? seriously???
  15. ok so i am getting close to start my engine build and ive searched and searched and with no results i wanna ask this, what have you done and what can you do to you L20 to get more out of it, ok so heres what i know, i have 44phh carbs, gonna run a peanut head, hotter cam, etc, what im curious about is swapping the z22 crank and what is all involved with that, also what about bigger valves? have any of you run big valves? if so what size and where did you get them? how about block boring? 10 20 30 40 50 over???????? please post what you have done to your engine, what you know you can do to your engine etc. i dont wanna go throwing different cranks and heads and shit on and the clearance not be right, that would be one expensive firework, and may be an unnecessary cost, i have a mcahine shop that can do anything i want, thanks guys
  16. i have almost the same problem with my truck, when the truck isnt moving i can give it gas and it has good throttle response and will rev right up but when under load like when i try and take off it has zero power, i have a fresh rebuild on the carb, new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and a timing job, it suck ass cause when i go to take off i have to revv it up really high and slip the clutch alot to get going otherwise if i let out on the clutch like normal and give it gas it will puke out and about die then it will catch up a little bit, the same thing happens if the truck is already moving and i stomp it it will bogg down then after about 10 seconds it will catch up and really go
  17. hey man there is some kind of something hangin off your truck !!!!!
  18. hey i didnt fail, dodge chrysler jeep and nissan are all in the bed!!!!!!!!!!, hmmm i wonder why they call it don marshal chrysler nissan???? wtf????
  19. hey man welcome to the forum, you will find out real quick that myself and 115% of all the other members would rather see datsun pictures than have sex, so please post some pics of your new truck!!!!!!!!
  20. nice!!!!!! looks like some work that i would do
  21. your heater valve is unhooked, i see where it is cliped onto the bracket but the hole in the end of the cable is not hooked onto the valve, if you hook it up you wont be so hott in the summer!!!!
  22. get under there and check your cable silly!!!!! you can remove the clip and the cable then adjust them to how you want them, all you have to do is close that little trap door when you remove the cable, then with the cable hooked up the door closed and the knob on the dash pushed to closed you put the little cable clip back on!!!! instantly adjusted so that when you push the knob it closes completely!!!! no mor epop bottle!!!! you can do this with the other cables as well, its very simple and you will understand what im talking about once you get under there, i didnt have a clue how it worked so i layed under my dash for about 15 minutes and move the cable and doors unitll it all made sense, its actaully extremely simple, im glad that datsun engineers made this shit so you can work on it
  23. ive had my truck for awhile now and last week i finally got around to fixing it, it turns out my resistor wasnt burned out but simply disconnected, when i took out my heater core for cleaning i found a tiny little screw and nut, i didnt think ahything of it untill i took out the resistor, one side of the resistor is crimped in and the other is held with that little screw!!!!, never did find the original screw after i washed otu my core but i put another one in it and presto!!!!!!! heat!!!!
