Mine has the same spring, but I don't have a extra one.... I have another lid that came with the lock and it has no spring(keeping that one.)this might be what others are talking of... but I will keep my eyes peeled!

That would be true. My brothers father n law hooked me up. He does a fantastic work! He's usually over whelmed in request for his services, so shortly after he did my bench seat he retired. Lol
