I hate billet parts, especially on classic cars/trucks! Some old school wheels, like slot mags would look good, the wheels you have on,especially with those tires make for a nice contrast with the bare metal body! Very, very nice !!

    That's a SWEET notch! I've never owned a type 3,but I've often wanted a notchback,or maybe a.fastback,since they're not done up as often.

Yes please! Show us some pics of the notch,& maybe the other VW projects too. I've been out of VW's for awhile, but still like them, especially the air cooled ones.

Yeah, don't paint it,keep the patina! Maybe treat any rust issues you may,or may not have, them clear coat it. If ever I was to open my own shop, It would be called "Lipstick on a Pig Customs". I can picture the logo now: a vintage style pin-up,only kinda like Petunia pig,or Miss Piggy, applying her lipstick & a "word baloon" where the pin-up piggy is saying " Respect the Patina". I'm not an artist,or I'd have drawn it already & used it for my signature pic. That's a damn nice looking 521 you have!

If I hadn't already bought a white "Datsun" rocker panel stripe set for my 521, I think I would do a stripe like this especially if it was a accessory from back in the day.

I like all of these trucks. I really like the stripe on the maroon one. I think i've seen that same stripe on other 521's. Was it some kind of dealer or factory accessory? It would be nice to know about the different accessories like this that were available when these trucks were new.
  7. Well, the block came back from the machine shop tuesday. The hang up was that our driver misunderstood what the machine shop told him to tell me. They told him they needed me to send them my timing cover to finish the block. He assumed "cover" meant valve cover. I kept thinking " why the hell do they need my valve cover to finish resurfacing the block. I finally stopped in & they told me what they needed. I had the timing cover bead blasted while it was there. I'm thinking of having the valve cover done too, since it has some pretty major areas of pitting that I have yet to be able to sand out. All the natural metal parts will be finished with a high temp clear coat for engines,& the block will be given a coat of engine primer coat, then painted a turqoise blue, also an engine paint all of which we sell at NAPA. Reassembly should begin soon, I hope.
  8. So,if I was looking for one of these h190 lsd's which 4 cyl,2wd trucks possibly have them? Also, doesn't a 510 wagon also use a h190 ? Would this differential be a possible swap into a wagon as well? I understand that the gears might need to be changed to make it a daily driveable car,or truck whichever it would be swapped into.
  9. Nice!! My wife has her Dad's old Honda Dream. It hasn't run in who knows how long, just sits in the back of her Dad's old Dodge power ram 86 d50 style 4x4 ). She's been asked if she would sell it hundreds of times,no way on that or the truck, which needs a whole new 2.6 engine & everything that was supposed to be bolted to it,(too many things to list) but are now missing. Her Dad passed suddenly about 13 years ago. He was doing a head gasket replacement,& the head was out being resurfaced. Nobody ever went & picked up the head,& the truck has been moved a few times. I have no idea when he rode the Honda Dream last, but it needs some lenses for the lights,a side cover, etc. I've thought of fixing it up,but haven't because i've been told it's too small, low powered to ride any real distance, especially on the freeway. It sure looks cool though! I've been wanting a vintage motorcycle for a long time. Something like a Triumph Bonneville,or some 70's Honda.
  10. Nice link, thanks! Those prices though. Glad I bought my goon before the prices on them got that high.

Welcome to Ratsun! That 521 looks like one that was for sale with another one on craigs list awhile back.
  12. I'll put in a good word for you with my boss. How soon are you planning to come back? We have 16 stores, I'll ask around & see if we are hiring at the other stores too. I think we just hired a shuttle run driver for Molalla, but last I heard Estacada was looking for someone. I'm going to counter sales full time, instead of freight/counter sales/driver. I'm going to be at Molalla full time, but they need to hire a replacement for the days I worked at Estacada. Pm me your contact info & I'll try to send you an application.
  13. Saw Wagon Dave's vg30 goon in front of Big Burger in MO-lalla while I was working filling in for our shuttle driver today. Sorry,no pics,i was driving the NAPA van.
  14. Nice! I've wanted one of those grilles for a long time. Congrats!
  15. An orange with black vinyl top 4-door, with slot mags just drove past Molalla NAPA( 2:10ish wednesday). I didn't have a.chance to get a pic. Anyone on here own or know this car?
  16. Yesterday outside my workplace,MO-lalla NAPA.
  17. For the first time in the approximately 5 years i've owned /daily driven my goon,it had a breakdown . I was on the way home from work, applied the brakes & it threw a front right pad. I limped it to a nearby shop that builds Datsun race cars, left it while I went & got new brake pads. He even put them on for me ( I could've done it,but am thankful for his help! ) I want to give a shout out & say thanks to Joe Harlan at Top Tech Motorsports in Oregon City ! Tha...

Very nice! About the Datsun and the shop. Must be nice to have no break downs lol

  18. Does the fm modulator hook to the factory radio somehow? I have been looking for a.factory radio for both my goon & my 521,preferably am/fm. All I have found so far are broken am radios,& one Datsun/hitachi am radio/ 8-track player. I might grab that for the nostalgia factor alone.
  19. I attempted to find rotors,& calipers for my goon through our sysyem at NAPA today. Sure there were part numbers listed, but none of them were available anywhere. no wonder the 280zx swap is so popular, the stock 510 stuff is hard to get.

i found the same problem. everyone lists them but then they say they cant get them. good luck!

  20. I spent most of my time during my high school years trying to hook up with girls like that.
  21. The first Datsun I owned was a '73 180b (610) 4 door. I was a junior at Vocational Village high school in Selwood, near Oaks Park in Portland,Oregon. About half the people I went to school with drove that car at some point. We put 12 people in it on the way to a party after prom. I've often wished I had never sold that car, starting with about a half hour after I sold it.
  22. Well,i had hoped my goon could hold off until I had my 521 ready for daily driver status, but it looks like i'll be needing to do the 280zx front brakes,& struts sooner, rather than later. It started making a low growl in the left front wheel,& the brakes are making noise too.

  23. Nice! Is it just the lighting in the pic,or does the shade of blue on the roof, match the mismatched front door? Nice contrast. Yeah, those slot mags look great on that car too. I think the stance of both this one,as well as your car might be alot of what make them look so good. I hope my car would look as good with them on,since I don't really plan on going that low due the the nature of the roads I drive daily.
  24. I would say you're at least fueling the trend,if not outright setting the trend. I know I have looked to your build on this car for inspiration,as I'm sure others have. I wouldn't want to straight out COPY your car, because I want it to be my own style(whatever that ends up being). As for jumping on the slot mag bandwagon, if I do so if will be because I've always liked the look, not just to get on a trend (not that there's anything wrong with following a cool trend! ). If you look towards the beginning of the "Goons check in" thread, you'll see I commented there, that I've always liked the look of slot mags. Not really a big deal either way,I just don't want to seem like a copycat. That being said, thanks for the inspiration!!
  25. Wow! Those slots look great on your car,(I really liked the previous wheels on it too though) ! I guess I'd better go dig through that pile of old wheels I know of & find a set before the price goes up.
