72240z
is there somthing im missing how does the throttle work? i dont see a throttle body anywhere :lol::lol: I'm sorry Bonvo but that had me rolling. The fuel pump controls the throttle. throttle controls fuel on a diesel not air..... right? That's backwards, fuel controls throttle. In this and most cases anyway, not all. Some diesels use a throttle body. There are many types of diesel engines. Edited April 3, 2009 by 72240z Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
True diesels have unrestricted air intake (well, restricted to the size of the intake valves and plumbing). That's why Diesels respond so well to turboing, usually without need for blowoff valves or wastegates. No worry of preignition; pack as much air in as possible (within reason). The drawback is if the turbo develops an oil leak into the compressor stage, the engine could concieveably run on the lube oil. It's not unheard of, and can cause a runaway engine. Gasoline engines are very mixture-reliant. So the main control is controlling the amount of air, which is metered and that sets the fuel rate. Diesels, you don't control the air at all, simply the fuel. Quote Link to comment
