datzenmike
Look on the engine tag, located on the left or driver's side inner fender, above the coil. A camper conversion company would have (should have) ordered a Cab/Chassis option that comes without the box. Cab/Chassis is an E code. The top of the engine tag would say EHL 620 XXXXX. If not a Cab/Chassis then the camper is on a regular set of truck springs. 2 Quote Link to comment
MrShuford
Thanks, I will give this a look and report back. Quote Link to comment
MrShuford
Well I was only able to find the easy one in the drivers door sill. I did not see anything under the hood. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The driver's door one has been removed and the conversion sticker applied. The engine tag should be riveted on the left inner fender near the coil. For the '78 model year Cab/Chassis production numbers are 310,001 to 375,000 so if the bottom number on your sticker is the old car number then 323,850 is well within that range. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
@paradime - those coilover shocks are good for about five years, then they always go soggy bottom. I would replace them with air bags. Like this kit from Air Ride. https://www.amazon.com/Air-Lift-Company-57399-Loadlifter/dp/B01LZTJN7M/ref=asc_df_B01LZTJN7M/ 3 Quote Link to comment
MrShuford
I found what looks like the divots for the tag, but it looks like nothing has ever been attached there. 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Yes. The Cab/Chassis begins with an E. A King Cab begins with a K and a regular cab (long or short wheelbase) has no letter 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Did it pass emissions testing? 1 Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
Nice. I wonder, since it is a cab/chassis, does it require a catalytic converter? My cab/chassis Chevy K30 does not. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
California remember???? All trucks for California had cats from Aug. '75. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Right, except certain cab/chassis models. My K30 is a 1980 and does not require a cat. 1 Quote Link to comment
MrShuford
There was no cat on this one. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Because it's not from California. California emissions required them on the 620. Don't know about E code Camper/Cab/Chassis but being California... likely. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Passed smog with no cat? 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
My K30 has a sticker stating that because it's a cab/chassis, it didn't need a cat. 1 Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
Well, I have never registered it. It stays on the property, used for fire wood, gravel, whatever job needs a dump truck. 1 Quote Link to comment
MrShuford
This rv has a 4 speed manual and I have a 5 speed I can put in. What are the pros and cons. Should I just leave the 4, will it change the speedo? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The 5 speed was never offered on the 620 Cab/Chassis. The L20B just doesn't have the torque to effectively use a 5 speed plowing all that air at highway speeds. In fact the Z22 720 didn't either and five speeds were only available on the '83 and up Z24 powered Cab/Chassis. I guess you could try it but it may not be able to maintain highway cruise speeds. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
It may not help all of the time, but it could help to keep the R's down while cruising on flat or downhill sections. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
At least it's not an automatic. Those are power suckers. 1 Quote Link to comment
