L320 gas and oil gauge

The gas gauge on my 65’ L320 only works till I hit a half tank then it will only read a half tank even if it’s nearly out I’ve replaced the float but that didn’t work 

 

along with the gas Gauge not working the oil temp isn’t either it is permanently stuck on hot and will not move I don’t know where to start on this any help for either issue is appreciated

With the temp gauge I'd be willing to bet it's the temp sending unit in the block. Resting position is H. The wire connection to the temp sending unit is fragile, I'd check that first.

Apply a ground to the wire that comes off the temp sending unit and see what the gauge does.

We had this discussion a while back. Didn't someone say that the temp sender is different from other senders? A Binary type?

It's different internally from the J13 sender. That's what I have and it reds backwards. I have the original and it will go back in when it comes up on my 'To-Do' list. I believe that Ted H. posted here that the temp gage is adjustable on the back side to accurize it.

It doesn't matter if it is positive or negative ground. Whatever it is, apply it and see what the gauge does.

E1 sending unit is unique to the 320 gauge, different than J engine sending unit. You in theory can calibrate the gauge from rear with a dental pick but I've never been able to get the wheel to spin.

I wonder if there is a BMC cross reference to the E1 sender.

There's one on Moss Motors and a bunch on eBay for $10 or $15. If I needed one I'd roll the dice.
