Stoffregen Motorsports
Nice. Now easier to follow. Â I don't know anything about stock carbs, but that looks suspiciously like a standard Hitachi bolt pattern. Â Anyone? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Take the carburetor off and look at the stud pattern. The Z24 carb is different than the earlier Z22. Instead of rectangular pattern it's trapezoid. Â This is the distance between the secondary studs on a Z24 intake compared to the L20B... which is also the same as the Z22. Â Â Here's a Z24 carburetor on an L20B intake and hoe much was ground away to make it fit. Â 1 Quote Link to comment

I expect that right below the carb is a black plastic riser with an electrical connection - that is the carb warmer. You can easily get a carb rebuild kit for the Hitachi 1 1 Quote Link to comment

builte
And yes I can get a rebuild kit I will not be getting rid of the old carb for this reason but I would like to do away with most of the vacuum lines because 🤮 they're gross so that why Im interested in a Weber carb I will be posting pics of the tear down tommarow Quote Link to comment
builte
Anybody have a good ball hone they'd recommend for the z24 cylinders? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Cylinder wall finish depends on the rings you plan to use and if the cylinders were machined over size. 1 Quote Link to comment
builte
Original sized rings if possible Quote Link to comment
builte
Well I'm gonna be holding on photos of the teardown cause there isn't a single place we're I live that sale bore mics Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well if just a quick hone 'n ring job then get the softer cast iron rings. Chrome rings need a more perfect round non taper bore. Don't forget most of the wear is at the very tops of the bores. 1 Quote Link to comment

Go to Summit Racing and search for ball hone. You can get them for about $25. Â As for what grit to use... Stolen from the web - Â Â EDIT -Â I just realized this quote was referring to honing stones, but I do remember that the product listings show the grit. builte
Ok awesome great information from both of you I really appreciate it I'll get the stuff ordered and post more when I can tommarow I'll pulling the engine regardless to post pics of the carb 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Oh, also, the right rhythm is needed when honing. I use a one-oun-thou-sand count. One-one on the down stroke, thou-sand on the up stroke. Use WD40 for lube and use low speed on the drill. 1 Quote Link to comment
builte
Ok awesome for how long would you recommend? Quote Link to comment
builte
Also what diameter would the ball hone need to be I'm just trying to do a cleanup and new rings nothing extensive atm. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
You can squeeze a "too-big" hone in any cylinder, as long as it's not too too big. I can't advise there. Maybe grab one for the "right size" and see how it feels. Â Ten or twelve strokes on each bore is all that it should take. 1 Quote Link to comment
builte
Ok cool I'll have to measure the cylinders then when I get the head taken off to get an idea of what I want thank you. 1 Quote Link to comment
