There are '80 federal 4 plug Z20 distributors that are virtually the same as the L series matchbox. There's even one on the 210 which has a drive gear on the bottom. The roll pin is removed to get the gear off and an L series collar installed. They are out there.

Might be an option

Yeah I'm looking for.local.machine shops to see if they can't just rebuild it

Not many of those people around anymore.... if it's a good original distributor it would be worth rebuilding....

Only available option I saw was for the later model 620.... it's for the L20b engine...  if you need to buy one it might be an option...

So the 1980 was the L20b but mike was pretty sure everything after 81 was a 8 prong

OK you could use the 8 plug distributor and just use 4 of the plug wires. No one can see it at 50 MPH

That one for the 610/710 will be points.

The one for the 620 truck says '76 '77and '78. The '76 and '77 were points. The '78 was a remote igniter EI. So again Cardone you are useless.

How would that work?

The 8 plug distributor will need an EI coil or one with about 1 ohm resistance. A points coil won't do.

The 8 plug has provision for two coils. The cap is: int. ex. int. ex.int. ex. int. ex.

It has a special rotor that, well you have to see it to understand how it works but pick one of the tracks, say the intake ring and the high tension wire from the coil goes into the cap that goes to the intake rotor.

Again three wires, one 12v and two that go to the coil negatives. I don't know which one is the 12v or which ones are the negatives. You'll have to figure that out. Plus 12v to the EI coil positive terminal. 1 3 4 2 firing order using every other plug hole marked I for intake. Below, imagine that the radiator is to the top I1 or Intake One is at the top. Turn counter clockwise skipping every other one that are E exhaust. I3, I4 I2

  Distributor Cap - Compatible with 1982 - 1986 Nissan 720 1983 1984 1985

Anyone with a points L4 could switch to an EI by doing this. Looks slightly wonky but it's results that count.
