Dragged home an early 1960 Ranchero

Recommended Posts

The car came into my buddy's salvage in 1973 from a Ford dealer in Apache, Oklahoma who took it in on trade and didn't want to mess with it. I've wanted it since 1995 when I first walked his yard. Made him an offer Friday and trailered it home. Floors are gone because the wheels were sold almost immediately so it sat on the ground for almost 50 years. Carburetor, voltage regulator and oil dipstick are gone but the rest of the engine is amazingly complete down to air cleaner, generator (including rubber boot), September 1959 dated radiator, OG fuel pump with glass sediment bowl and inspectors' paint markings throughout. Not sure why almost nothing under the hood ever got sold. My buddy was surprised and slightly irritated by that revelation. Not sure how the tailgate was never sold! Already got a grill coming off eBay and a fender located near me. 144 six with 3 on the tree and four lug bolt pattern thats the same as Datsun and Corvairs. Got a dome light above the rear view mirror but rubber delete plugs in the door jambs! HOLY HELL is it rough though! Leaf springs rotted in 1/2! I'll post more pics later.

Buddy of mine has been in California for the last few weeks settling his father's estate. He brought these back not knowing I'd purchased a Falcon. He saw my truck on the trailer and brought them up to me in 25' weather. Free clean, slick SOCAL 13s with 1960/61 hubcaps when all I've found locally are rusted and pitted beyond usefulness.

Found & installed a driver's fender, Ranchero script purchased off eBay, new 13s + new leaf springs! Front end sits high which i guess is to be expected given that tires and wheels were pulled off decades ago so the front coils were being stretched down for many years. I'm hoping they settle as time goes by.20230217_160643.thumb.jpg.67e2e9d0d10342cae93d00a26a0623bd.jpg

I've always liked those too, few years ago I came across one in Mexico that is a daily driver, very solid survivor. Maybe one year when I'm back there I can find it again and bring it home 🙂

I found the pics of that Ranchero, damn I want it ...
