Datsun pickup
Is there an idle mixture screw and a fuel mixture screw on the carb. Where would they be? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The idle mixture is set at the factory. The hole the mixture screw is in is then sealed with an aluminum plug. If you feel that you must, drill an 1/8th inch hole and twist a wood screw in and pull the lug out. The idle speed screw has a philips head and is in the upper left. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
My truck was running too rich, but now runs so lean that it won’t start. What could I try that might be the problem? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Jets are fixed but if obstructed with dirt it could run lean. They can't run rich unless the choke is on. What are you basing this rich/lean on???? Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
Is the spring in the choke heater supposed to be coiled up? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It coils up when cold and unwinds as it is heated electrically. The choke flap is connected to and follows this. To run richer (only on warm up) you can adjust the coil tighter against the choke flap. To lean out during warm up loosen the adjustment. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
How do you test to see if it heats up? Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
It runs for about 10-15 seconds and then shuts off. Also my accelerator pump is leaking out the top plate. Quote Link to comment

Does it run if you keep cycleing the pedal????? then its running off the accel pump Accell pump leaky its the diapraph that has a hole and shooting out . other added infor If flooding out then the float bowl cut off valve(usually i little ball bearing is dirty) of float sinks cause hol and full of gas Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
How many turns out from all the way in should the idle speed screw be set at? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Did you remove the plug covering the adjustment screw? It's different for every engine. If they were all 1 1/2 turns then why are they made to be adjustable? try 1 1/2 out to start if it won't idle try 2 turns go from there Turn warmed up engine idle speed down as low as possible. Turn mixture screw in and out searching for the fastest smooth idle speed. There may be a turn where the idle doesn't change so set roughly in the middle. Turn idle down to 700 and adjust mixture screw in and out looking for the best idle quality Repeat till you cannot make any improvement and the idle is about 700 Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
I am looking to install a Weber carburetor, which model of Weber should I use? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
32/36 DGEV Make sure it has the fuel cut solenoid. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
... and electric choke. Your present carburetor has these two things and it just makes life easier. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
We’re should the timing mark be, at 0 degrees? Mine is at 10 degrees. Does 10 degrees off affect anything? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Z24 timing is 3 degrees BTDC, if both coils firing. It'll obviously run at 10 but you're loosing something. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
I don’t know what is wrong, but when the engine is running and the choke plate is open it wants to die. What might cause a problem like that? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I assume this is idle running you're talking about???? The choke forces a rich fuel condition. If it will only run with the choke on then it could be assumed that the engine is actually running lean and needs the choke on. 1/ Idle cut solenoid not operating. Engine off, listen near the back of the carburetor while someone turns the ignition on off on off on off. You should be able to hear a soft clicking sound if working. Does it? 1/ There is a vacuum leak. Gasket under carburetor. Check any hose connected to the intake for cracks or unplugged, specially this fitting and lines... Look at the larger hose to the vacuum brake booster. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
Yes, I am talking about the idle. I have a Weber carb on it, is there anything I need to know about the Weber swap? What is the vacuum pressure on the Z24 supposed to be? Edited May 10, 2023 by Datsun pickup Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The adapter is known to be over tightened and cracked resulting in a vacuum leak. Vacuum is the opposite of pressure. Idle vacuum should be above 16 in. kg. ...... 18 would be a good strong idle signal. Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
There is a very loud squealing that keeps getting louder. It is either the crank pulley or something internal to the engine or something completely different. what might the squealing be? Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Keep driving it and you'll find out!!! 2 Quote Link to comment

Yup that covers just about everything. Power steering pump tension adjustment pulley. Possibly the water pump bearing. Alternator bearing. Any one of the belts could be loose or glazed. Remove the belts one at a time till noise stops and you have it. 1 Quote Link to comment
Datsun pickup
I have already removed the one belt there is and the squealing persists. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
This is with the engine running in neutral and truck stopped? One belt only? No power steering? Quote Link to comment
