Vinyl not necessarily 3M or Scotch unless by accident. They are all UL approved. On the last turn give it a good pull and stretch it tight till it parts. This stretching increases the grip.

When twisting wires together always wrap the electrical tape in the same direction. If permanent, always solder any wires you connect.

If using crimp connectors where exposed to the weather squeeze some RTV into the end(s) before inserting the wire for crimping. Then wrap with electrical tape. Heat shrink is also good for this.

Good electric tape and wrap twice, first layer is wrapped sticky side out, then second layer is wrapped normal. When you need to replace the tape in years to come there is no sticky mess to deal with and the wires are clean. Thanks to a forum member - can't remember who told me but it works well for regular electric tape

I prefer Tesa tape and am using it on my 510 wagon project. It might be a bit expensive but well worth the ease of using.
