Ratwagon1600
Mmmmkayyyyy. Unless this is something specific to Murican, South African or Mexican 510's, in nearly 32 years of owning these beasties I have never seen a 510 (Datsun 1600 downunder) have a chassis number that starts with anything but P510. I have seen a number of imported two door cars here, all with the P510 prefix. Has it been restamped? And yeh, whhat Ko said; post a pic. 2 Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
When I swapped the L for a 1, it popped up and shows the car on his profile.... Link to comment
datzenmike
In North America there were L510s and PL510 with P for the L16 engine and L for left hand drive. The L510 was likely the base L14 or L13 engine and needs no prefix for this. As he says it is a RHD it is likely different is some respects. RHD would not need the L prefix. Likely the sedan was P510 and the wagon WP510. No way would it be stamped at the factory P5L0 The JDM Coupe 510 was KP510 for the L16SSS and KH510 for the L18SSS engine, with K for Coupe and H for the larger option L18 P510-240727 This is just the 240,727th one made. The numeral 1 and the lower case letter l (ell) are too similar. If this was stamped on an easily gotten engine tag maybe it was transposed. Which calls into question if this is actually an import JDM car or one that was converted. 1 Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Makes sense, mine is PL510..... But not RHD like the one on his profile, I simply swapped the letter for the 1 and Google popped up his car in the first result.... 1 Link to comment

datzenmike
Picture of the engine tag might help. A real one won't be in English and usually the numbers are neatly stamped by machine like a typewriter not by hand and all over the place. 1 Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Look for it engraved in the firewall too, mine has it besides the tag and on the dashboard stamp. Link to comment
datzenmike
Keep forgetting the cowl above and behind the valve cover stamping. I'm thinking it's a RWD conversion. . Link to comment

Ratwagon1600
In addition to the stamping on the strut tower (and on the firewall) some 510's down here had an additional tag with the VIN number on it which was rivited to the inner guard (fender) on the passenger (Murican drivers side) of the vehicle. Interesting they did that on a commonly replaced part....Wow! Link to comment
