Deserthawk
Hey guys I'm working on a 1982 Datsun 720 with the 2.2 engine. I cannot find the torque specs and sequence for the valve cover. Would you all mind helping me out? Thanks in advance. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
10 mm? about 6 ft lb. Or just enough to crush the gasket. Check later for leaks and add more. 3 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Damn....I've never known anyone that torqued those...go wrist tight with a small ratchet....then tighten again if needed after the engine is hot....very simple, don't over think. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes. It would be very easy to over do this in a soft aluminum head and strip them. Snug them up the gasket will do the rest. 3 Quote Link to comment
Deserthawk
Awesome that works. I'm helping a friend out and I removed several layers of gasket maker and the remnants of a cork gasket. He's just happy it's being done right this time around. 3 Quote Link to comment

Deserthawk
Hah I can take a pic of the mess on the floor when it's done. So I also installed a weber carb with electric choke. You guys know if a shorter throttle cable that will work with it? This carb actuates on the drivers side so the cable is binding up Quote Link to comment
tdc
i flipped the cable housing over in the firewall (where it screws in) and ran a longer cable inner when i did the swap on mine. you can kinda see what i have going on here - at the moment, the excess cable inner is coiled up and hanging out in that empty space between the wiper fluid ressy and the intake manifold in the picture. i'll cut that off when i get a proper cable end to crimp on so that it doesn't get all frayed. Deserthawk
Hey thank you I'll give that a try and see how it goes Quote Link to comment
Deserthawk
How did you plug egr on the intake side? I got him pace setter headers so that will delete anything on exhaust side Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
You have to make a cover plate if you want to remove the egr from the intake. I made this one by tracing the egr gasket. Used a drill and a 4" grinder to make it. 2 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Nice work on the EGR block of plate. Quote Link to comment
