racerx
Need you guys advise. I am getting ready to have a shop install my L18 head (valve is sinking) and they gave me choice to get the parts myself or let them order. The L18 head I have is supposedly good and been cleaned out and prepped. I would rather get the parts myself. So I was wondering where is a good place to order good parts like head gasket sets and also the mechanic recommends that I get new head bolts. Another question I have is should I get a new timing chain set? Thank you. Quote Link to comment

Cloyes is my choice for a timing set, if your head bolts re smooth and not a wanckey looking, should be OK to go. Dealer supplied Turbo head bolts are a great option for new... Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I'm a fan of cleggengine.com for rebuild kits. The L series doesn't use torque to yield bolts, so they don't usually require replacement like they do on newer stuff. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
L head bolts are totally reusable if not damaged. They are not the crappy 'torque to yield' ones they pass off on us today so they can save a dollar.. Any auto supply will have a head gasket. Was it rebuilt??? Did they use hardened steel seats, not the soft bronze ones??? Were new valve seals installed? 1 Quote Link to comment
racerx
Supposedly the head has been worked on and cleaned but I will have the mechanic look at it first. What about timing chain set? Should I get those too? Quote Link to comment
