Byron-521
I would like to know if a gear box from a 1978 620 Datsun fits in a 1971 521 Datsun? Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Yes. Unless yours is bad, no need. They're both 4.375. Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Yes. Unless yours is bad, no need. They're both 4.375. Yours only has one gear? Weird. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
He meant differential, did he not? If not, the answer is yes, kind of. Well covered. Quote Link to comment
wayno
I would like to know if a gear box from a 1978 620 Datsun fits in a 1971 521 Datsun? If your talking about the 5 speed, it will not without shift lever location, transmission mount, and driveline modifications, it's not a bolt in. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I would like to know if a gear box from a 1978 620 Datsun fits in a 1971 521 Datsun? What wayno said. 620 (4 or 5 speeds after '73) will bolt to the engine but be about 5.5" too long. The rear transmission mount will also be in another position and not line up. Quote Link to comment
Byron-521
Mines is a 4 speed trans, & truck tends to go to the left when driving. I figure it's the gear box taking a dump, & a friend has a 78 Datsun truck & said he will give me his but we don't know if it will work on mine 521? Quote Link to comment
Byron-521
The steering wheel gear box** Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Bad front alignment makes it veer to the side. If your 4 speed is working leave it alone and fix the alignment. Bad alignment can be caused by an adjustment being out, but on an old truck it's much more likely that some steering parts are worn out and need replacing. A worn box will have lots of side to side movement without much steering effect. Quote Link to comment

4perrev
Shifting gears makes you go sideways. Maybe it's looking at tail while driving! Quote Link to comment
