joshiroku
hey guys i used the search function but i didnt come up with a solid answer. ive got a 78 620 and im going to install some 40 dcoe webers. im wondering which of the intake manifolds available will allow me the least amount of headache with installation and brake booster clearance??? any pics of actual setups in 620 pickups would be great as well 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
Mikuni had a short type manifold when they used to sell on the market in the 80s and early 90s. Most are the Cannon brand which is longer don't know if it hits or not with aircleaners Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
My 50mm DCOEs extend 8" out from the head, measured from the gasket surface to the flange where the velocity stacks bolt on. The back corner of the carb is about even with the back of the rear exhaust port (edge of the internal bore) and yours will likely be the same outside dimensions. My manifolds are from Pierce Manifold - cheaper than Ebay. I never fitted them to the engine while the brake booster was in place so I don't know if they'll fit. Quote Link to comment

distributorguy
Their website isn't much help. A phone call yields fast results, and a pic or two via email - and likely a better price than their site suggest because these manifolds aren't exactly fast movers. I remember my manifolds, carbs, gaskets, studs, etc... being cheaper through them than used on Fleabay. Quote Link to comment
joshiroku
i spoke with mike over @ pierce. he was very helpful ,however the the manifolds designed fro the 620 have long been out of production. ill have to wait till one pops up or modify an existing one Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
They sold me the 510 manifolds. They fit the same, other than possibly a brake booster clearance issue? All L-series accept the same manifolds with the exception of an FIA head. Quote Link to comment
orangie
Who needs brakes? They're overrated. Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
Power brakes are a luxury that I don't really care for - you lose the feel of the pedal in some vehicles. I ditched the power brakes in my 620. All you need is a little better pedal ratio and they work the same with a better feel. Quote Link to comment
G-Duax
LoL, on mine, with low manifold vacuum caused by big cams, that little booster does little anyway........ Quote Link to comment
distributorguy
That's exactly what I was thinking for Josh. Power (vacuum) anything is pointless with DCOEs. You need to get the distributor reworked as well - no vacuum advance and a different advance curve to deal with the low vacuum and low velocity through the carbs, which provide less than uniform low-rpm fuel mixture. Basically, they over fuel and there's nothing you can do about it except tweak idle jets and emulsion tubes as far as you can go, plus advance the heck out of the timing to start burning the fuel earlier. mcordero8
What do you need brakes for? All they do is slow you down. Quote Link to comment
