DaMuN
As the title pretty much ask the question. Will a 720 tub fit and line up on a 521? Here in Australia a 521 tub is rarer then hens teeth, same with the 620 tub. Sorry if it's been asked or a common thing. Couldn't find anything on old google. But... if a 720 tub won't work, what else will? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Only the short wheelbase 720 has a chance of fitting, unless you got long wheelbase 521s?. 2 Quote Link to comment

DaMuN
I figure it would need some helping to fit but i was more wondering if it would look OK and not out of place. I figured I would drop it lower so the top of the bed ( tire down part ) would line up with the door/handle indent. Kinda how a 620 tub does. Has anyone done it before? Pics? 2 Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
i don't think so as there really isnt a need to do it over here, as we have plenty of tubs(beds) but the boxyness of the 720 and roundness of the 521, might look like the updated 320 2 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
Damn that looks nice. 1 Quote Link to comment

DaMuN
Dam Australia and it not getting the beds! That's not a bad idea. I might play with Photoshop. Thanks for the painfully obvious idea TENDRIL. 1 Quote Link to comment

DaMuN
Thanks uberkevin, I'm already going down the 720 chassis route. Currently working with an engineer to make it legal. I am after a bed for it now. It has a great wooden tray that does look neat but a bed looks so much cooler hahaha. 1 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
I think i just learnt how to "code" from posting from imgur.com LOL So this is my quick attempt at a shortened/modded 1980 720 tub on a 521. big thanks to the owners of these 2 dattos...didnt ask for permission...woops. Tried dropping the bed so the fold at the top 720 bed would line up with the fold on the 521 door but it made the bed wheel arch WAY to low... looked cool but didn't match the front :( Not sure if i like it. Need to smooth out the bottom of the 720 bed. Opinions??? 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I have a 1980 720 standard cab short bed bed and my buddy Gene has a 70 521 with no bed. As soon as I am able to do something (shoulder surgery last week) I will have Gene help me and we will set the 720 bed on the 521 to see how it fits. I will post pictures of it. I just put my 66 520 on a 1980 720 chassis. link to this build is in my signature below. 2 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
Hope you're alright and healing well after surgery. That would be awesome if you could do that! Thanks! I've read your thread about the cab/chassis swap. That's what gave me the idea. ok not ALL of it hahaha Hopefully i can find a decent single cab with bed, that way the cab can sit on the chassis and only have to redrill body mounts and get a bed ( to cut up if needed = length ) if all goes well with your trial fitting. Charlie69
Not heeled yet but Gene got ambitious and set the 720 bed on the 521 truck. Thank you Gene, you did a god job. 4 Quote Link to comment
wayno
It actually looks better than I thought it would, perhaps if one were to paint a line on the side like skyblue has on his 521 it might actually look like it belongs there. 2 Quote Link to comment
DaMuN
Thanks Gene! And Charlie69! It does look good Wayno, a lot better than my Photoshop job lol and yeah I'm definitely doing a blue stripe. Do you think if I just pull the guard in between the cab and wheel arch the bed would be the same width and look flush? And perhaps smooth the bottom of the beds sides? Both easy jobs right? I'm getting really excited about having a bed/tub on the 521. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Not too shabby... 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Honestly if you can put you 521 cab on the 720 chassis it would in my opinion be much easier than putting the 720 bed on the 521 chassis. Gene would you please take some pictures showing the cab/bed gap and the wheel well to tire alignment (front to back). Quote Link to comment
