Draker
They are markers, to mark the corners of the car. They don't flash. You can make them flash though. 2 Quote Link to comment

Draker
There are a few write ups on here to make them flash. 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Rear side markers are always red. They come on when the headlights (or parking lights) are on. Not sure why it's confusing. Every car since 1968 and every truck since 1970 has been required to have them. They're usually integral with the taillights on modern cars, but Datsun didn't do that until the 80s on most. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Won't work if they are single wire ground return lamps. 1 Quote Link to comment
DanielC
The side marker lights on a 521 do not ground to the bed of the truck. They have a ground wire that goes in to the bed wiring harness, and then to the frame of the truck. 2 Quote Link to comment
Rick-rat
Don't mess with anything that will call attention to yourself when driving, they can probably find other shit that's not working too 1 Quote Link to comment

Many new cars are set up this way and it will alert drivers in your blind spot or beside you that you are turning, possibly into them, so they can maneuver out of the way or honk a warning. 2 Quote Link to comment
Nurdlogic
Yea i understand side markers are ment to stay on with headlights or sometimes even running lights however i was un sure if i could add a flash to them as well and still be in a legal situation. Getting with my shops state inspector he recommended them due to blind spot warning 1 Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
It's amazing how many people put these on upside down or backwards. Even on nice 521's  2 Quote Link to comment
