Need info about rear side markers

im new to the datsun scene and a big noob at the works of datsun, however im over looking my tail lights and would like to know if the rear side markers are made for brakes, or turning signals? if someone could plz send a pic or just simplify what these rear markers do, they are red which is why its confusing. ty and appreciate the info.

Rear side markers are always red.  They come on when the headlights (or parking lights) are on.  Not sure why it's confusing. Every car since 1968 and every truck since 1970 has been required to have them.  They're usually integral with the taillights on modern cars, but Datsun didn't do that until the 80s on most.

Don't mess with anything that will call attention to yourself when driving, they can probably find other shit that's not working too

 

Yes if they are not working, but you can wire them easily enough to flash with the turn signals. Many new cars are set up this way and it will alert drivers in your blind spot or beside you that you are turning, possibly into them, so they can maneuver out of the way or honk a warning.

Yea i understand side markers are ment to stay on with headlights or sometimes even running lights however i was un sure if i could add a flash to them as well and still be in a legal situation. Getting with my shops state inspector he recommended them due to blind spot warning
