RMP&O
Didn't go billet due to the cost for the chunk of billet to make these but I am happy with the results anyways. :) Cheers 2 Quote Link to comment

RMP&O
Building one from two? Ya, or just sending both to the IP shop and have them tested, use the best one. One cost me an arm and a leg, the other was cheap. Back up parts in the future too I guess. Cheers Quote Link to comment
RMP&O
I zipped down to Moab on Friday and picked up an SD33T from a IH Scout. Got it for a good deal. It is complete from fan to transmission. I am going to scrap it for parts and use in the build too. Reason, I think the head is different as it is a factory turbo head and my others are N/A heads. The block may or may not be different. There is debate in Patrol circles about the N/A having oil jets for the pistons. At some point Nissan started putting the oil jets in all SD33 blocks but nobody can really say what year they made the change. My basic engine to start with is from an 83, I do not know if it has the oil jets until I crack it open. By having the factory turbo block I should be covered though if my N/A lacks them. In a couple weeks I think i will get all this shit to the machine shop. And send off the turbo, IP and injectors to the IP shop. On another note, the guy in Spain I got one of the IPs from, he can get new from Nissan crate SD33T engines. He sent me some videos of them. Price is $3,000 euros plus $700 euros in shipping. Pretty expensive but not awful I guess for a brand new crate engine. I myself don't need it but it is nice to know that crate SD33Ts are still out there in the world. Cheers 2 Quote Link to comment

RMP&O
Got me a Hotsy rented. main goal with it was two rolling chassis but those are done so I am proceeding to other things. Got it till Monday. Cleaned up the SD33T from the Scout I picked up recently in Moab. I put my money on this being original paint on the motor. it cleaned up nicely and the Hotsy sure takes care of business when dealing with decades of oil, grease, sand, gravel, dirt, mud, grass, funk! A couple of clean Nissan motors A couple of pics from a 64 rolling chassis that got cleaned Cheers Quote Link to comment

RMP&O
Updates? Been in Baja, returned recently. Rather still be there! SD33T diesel is at the machine shop. I took it in awhile ago but am in no hurry. Talked to them today. Bad news, the Scout head pictured above is cracked badly. Hoping the head on the engine is ok, they pulling it on Monday. If not I got one spare in unknown condition. If that one is bad too, big bummer as I will need a new head. Will be hard to find and run me $1000+. Not much else to tell about the Ute. Baja was great though! Cheers 2 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
That's a shame about the head, Baja looks like a good time! 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
My buddies take an annual trip to Baja. They call it the Manly Man Challenge. I've been invited and I'd love to go. Bushwhacking through the jungle could be a lot of fun! 1 Quote Link to comment
RMP&O
That a Dana 27? Sorry, missed this post. No it is a Nissan C216. For years and years and years and to this day Nissan uses numbers to designate diffs. The number is ring gear in mm. C200, C216, H233 and H260 are all common Patrol diffs. But the old ones only had C216's and H260's. Front axle is a super old school design, known as the ball and claw or technically called a "tracta joint". Although they did go to a CV by the early 1970's. Pretty much every Patrol in the USA though has the tracta joint. Cheers Quote Link to comment
RMP&O
That's a shame about the head, Baja looks like a good time! Kind of typical with these diesels. It was a good time, shake down run for my Cruiser for longer trips in the future. Cheers Quote Link to comment

All desert man. Very dry place. Forests of cactus for miles and miles. Few oasis though with palms and a river. Maybe that is what you saw? Cheers Quote Link to comment
RMP&O
Alrighty, talked to the injection shop. Probs with the pump are where it mounts to the engine is a bushing. This is all auged out and egg shaped, that makes the case toast. So it is not cracked but still toast. Barrel and plungers are also shot along with some springs. I got a spare TD pump I am gong to send them next week. Hoping that solves the issue with the case. New barrel and plungers are not all that expensive. They were quoting nearly $1000 for these parts in their price quote which was $2900. Still going to be hard on the wallet but better than $2900 before parts! Injectors not to bad but full rebuild on all six is only $250, that is great! No word on turbo yet but not much to a turbo so that shouldn't be to bad. Have not found out if the head came back ok after pressure test but I am guessing it did. Will have a lump of cash into the engine but it will be brand new, ready to go for hundreds of thousands of miles and I am not cutting any corners. Doing it up right! I am thinking it will still be 2-3 months before it is all said and done and back here at my place. I am ok with that, just want it done right the first time and be ready to rock and roll. So not only will this be the ONLY vintage Patrol pickup in the USA with a turbo diesel, it will have a brand new motor. :) Cheers Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Can't you just drill the hole out bigger and make a bigger bushing for the case? 1 Quote Link to comment
