A modified B26 circled his field on a Pacific Island in late ww2. By the time he landed the Base commander had a paint crew ready at the revetment he was directed to. This B26 was an older bird. It had a 30 mm cannon installed through a hole in the nose. On firing, the cannon recoiled full length of the fuselage into a bump stop. The planes were good for about a dozen shots and were then scrapped due to fuselage warping. This plane had a pair of spread legs painted on the nose. The hole was a butt hole. Never saw a Marauder with a 30MM. Or a 30 MM in WWII service. 2 Quote Link to comment

Like I mentioned, a dozen shots and the plane was scrapped for whatever parts were still useable. Needless to say the aircraft chosen for this mission were not the cream of the crop to begin with.
