SirSmithy
Hi fellow 210 enthusiasts! I'm starting this thread to give you guys a peek of my progress. I know how you guys like your pics. Dash almost completely removed. alot of miles Can anyone give me insight on how to remove the dimmer switch from the dash? This isn't going to be fun to replace... Here's the side marker that colourbox is helping me replace  Still have the bottom plastics alteast.... Found a rust hole in the driver door... That's it for now. Testing a few different plastic paints that I'm going to use for the interior plastic. First thing next week is to get rid of that nasty rust. I'll have more pictures next weekend. 2 Quote Link to comment
Kirden
I'm confused. How did you get a datsun that didn't have the factory rats nest behind the dash? I'm pretty sure that was original equipment for my datsuns. The car looks good. I like the "best mpg" mark on the speedo gauge. You could have a massive sleeper on your hands if you leave the exterior like it is now :P 1 Quote Link to comment
king bee66
Your radiator looks like it was meant for a smaller motor, like an a12 Quote Link to comment
RatsunGT
The switches in the b210 normally push in and turn left ( counter clockwise ) and pulls off the end of the (t) holding it Quote Link to comment
RatsunGT
And then there's a bolt or washer on it Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
Kirden:  I guess that I was lucky enough to find one without. Thanks! I think that it needs to look a little better. Exterior paint will be the absolute last thing done on this car. king bee66: I thought it looked a little small myself. Looks like a dealer installed A/C compressor hiding down there. Kirden
Haha, two rare A/C options on a 210/B210 in Macon. We are in an elite group I'm told :P I don't have a pic that includes my radiator, but that does look quite a bit smaller. If I remember correctly, my radiator sits a lot closer to this hose on the left in this pic: But ends about where yours ends on the right. I'll take a look to be sure once I get home. SirSmithy
RatsunGT: Thanks! I'll give that a try. Knew there had to be some trick to it. Quote Link to comment
Cleopatra Jones
Looks like you've got some good dash assembly pieces there. You missing the glove box? The rear sidemarkers I sent you will look much better :) I forgot you had a hatchback so if I have spare taillights they won't work for you cause I've got a sedan. RatsunGT is correct, the dash dimmer is spring loaded. Pain the arse. I can always take the thing off but I can never get it back on. FYI, if you ever mess one up or it goes bad you can pull them from a Z as well. Zs are easy to come by. I'm surprised you still have wiper bolt covers. Those ain't easy to find either. Can't wait to see your progress. Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
Kirden: That's great! I'm planning to take her to an A/C shop when I'm finished with the engine swap (grabbing a KA24DE next weekend hopefully) to see if it is possible to use the 210 cooling unit/evaporator with the KA compressor. Haven't seen it done yet and it would be one of those nice finishing touches. A/C is a must here in the south. colourbox: Thanks! I'm in the process of painting it all now and will have pics soon. I'm surprised that they are still there too! Ordered: CAN/AM box, Front & Rear Windscreen gaskets, & Door Gaskets. Waiting to pull the A14 before i rebuild the front end. Should be much quicker/easier. For some reason I cannot find the proper name for the window pictured below. This and a new boot seal are the only things I need to be weather ready! SirSmithy
Parts! Got everything in to rebuild my steering in the morning! Also grabbed some LEDs for the gauge cluster. Maybe I will actually be able to see the speedometer at night. Currently looking for a cluster with the OEM tach. Any idea what models came with a tach? My guess would be models equipped with the A15 and manual transmission. Bulb covers. Pretty sure that was the problem... Driveshaft comes in next week! Cannot wait to get the old A14 out on the road. Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
I have this amazing instrument cluster with stock tachometer now thanks to Kim! But I need help wiring up the tachometer correctly. I found the wires that the diagram maps out, but they just have your standard wire connectors and seem a little short to reach the Tachometer. Also, the wiring diagram has a symbol that I'm not familiar with between the harness and where the Tachometer 'plug' should be. Is there a dedicated plug with wires just for the tachometer that I'm missing? Quote Link to comment
CWhip
Any luck wiring in the tach? Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Wow Smithy, that instrument cluster looks amazing. I'm fighting the urge to do a swap on my B210. I just really want to see how the A15 goes, but the fact that I have to get a new carb setup is bumming me out. 350-600 for either a new 32/36 or a new DCOE with single DCOE manifold and thats basicly what a KA would cost with trans. Must fight it... Which side of macon are you on? I'm on the edge of Jones/bibb/twiggs lines, but luckily I'm in Jones and not cross keys :P Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Only place I've seen those is on the PitRoad website... Looked for some for myself for a long time... I'll see if I can find it again... For some reason I cannot find the proper name for the window pictured below. This and a new boot seal are the only things I need to be weather ready! SirSmithy
Any luck wiring in the tach? Going to give it a try this weekend. I found an electrical connector that should work. I love the sound of my A14 and plan on rebuilding it once I swap something else in. The KA is tempting, but I'm holding out for a good CA now. Should be a better match for the car. ;) Currently I am living in the Lizella area. We should meet up one day. Only place I've seen those is on the PitRoad website... Looked for some for myself for a long time... I'll see if I can find it again... Me too. The plan is to take it to a window repair shop and try find a similar shaped gasket material. Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
Alright, I have a temporary solution for my missing Tachometer plug. This obviously isn't the cleanest solution, but will get the job done until I have the time to research for a proper plug. As you can see I cut a female connector in half and insulated it with some electrical tape. I then taped all the wires together for a little more stability for when I place the cluster back in. Will plug it into the 210 tomorrow and see how well the tach works! Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
Found a plug! It fits a little tight, but I don't plan on removing it anytime soon. The plugs came in a pack of 10 so let me know if you need one. :D Quote Link to comment
SirSmithy
It's been too long! Well, I found some frame rail damage under the passenger seat last year that was a bit disheartening, so I've been focusing on other things in the mean time. :hmm: Really need some advice on ways to fix this. My idea is to install a 6 point cage and maybe build a ladder for the bottom if it is needed. Has anyone installed a 6 point cage in their b310 stateside? If so, what vendor did you use to fab it for you? Stiffening and sorting out the unibody is my top priority this year. Want to get this done before reinstalling the windscreens. Any advice is appreciated. Quote Link to comment
Lonestar
Nice work you got going there man. Really nice to see you keeping this one on the road. Roll cage, yes, I think it's MMark? that's got a roll cage in his 210 and it's hatchback like yours. The dimmer switch knob, ooh boy what fun that was for me, had to replace it because the spring shot through the front of the cover which is what commonly happens to them and yes, I can tell you right now that your Rad is wrong for your car, way too small. Keep up the good work man, lets keep them on the road! Quote Link to comment
Kirden
Ouch man. That damage looks rough. I like the idea of a cage, but look out for those blues. They pulled a friend over for his cage and required him to get inspected for "vehicle safety". $250 in fees later the inspector said his car was better than stock... Just bogus ways for Jones co to take money. Edit: to clarify, it was a dot approved cage, but wasn't installed by a shop. That was enough for them to require inspection. Quote Link to comment

Keep up the good work man, lets keep them on the road! Thanks Lonestar! I installed a Weber/deleted some smog stuff last year and a new instrument panel, drove it up and down the road a few times and noticed that the engine was running warmer than usual. So, it's either the instrument panel reading is off, or the radiator isn't large enough to handle the extra combustion that the Weber is creating. The radiator seems like it would be the culprit. The main reason for asking about the roll cage is to get a few ideas for mine. My main concern is the rear suspension and if I should tie the shock/strut towers into the cage somehow. Seems like the thing to do if I want to use coilovers in the future. Thanks for all the info you have collected and posted on the forums over the years. Really helps us 210 guys out! Ouch man. That damage looks rough. I like the idea of a cage, but look out for those blues. The poor car was used as a fishin'/huntin' vehicle for years according to the PO. I'm guessing he bottomed it out on a trail somewhere. Wow, that is a bit out of the ordinary for a county cop to do! Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to have my cage inspected as soon as it is finished. The idea is to have mine up to spec for any events I may want to attend in the future. I'll still need to weigh the car at some point and make sure a drivetrain swap will not push me into larger DOM diameter requirement in the future. Gotta make sure everything is future-proof. Kirden
Yea, just keep the inspection papers in your car. Jones Co are hard asses on any "ricer" bits because of all of the street racing and stupid highschool kids. They've pulled registration on my buddy's mustang for modifying his cage to install a harness even though it was inspected prior to adding the harness bar. He just races it now, so it's not a problem, but that can be a headache for someone who wants to drive for weekend fun runs. Quote Link to comment

SirSmithy
Almost a decade later I am back to work on the project. Let this be a reminder to never give up! Got the windscreen gaskets in and they fit pretty well! Pulling the A14 for a quick gasket refresh, new timing kit, and cleaning (hours and hours of cleaning). Plan on running this for awhile and possibly doing an EFI conversion before completely overhauling/upgrading the drivetrain. Will be looking for a 210/B310 wagon in the future if the EFI conversion goes well. Who wouldn't want a reliable and fuel efficient vintage wagon for vacation? https://photos.app.goo.gl/g7rmUtx8Fj33Z4av8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/e3YfBfzQRMCqvUQg7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/DmiLyUshJmhLBq528 https://photos.app.goo.gl/U3wcUDGhJXSWeTuq8 Quote Link to comment
