No offense to the seller if he is on here, but that one on Ebay is WAY overpriced. That may be easy to say for someone who has one in his possession, but that is too much. They don't come up often, but they can be purchased from yahoo auctions japan every once in awhile. After shipping: ~$300 to $500. I was able to hunt down two a a couple of years ago for a total of $450.

Also, I am not sure the A87 head was the original EFI head on the L18e. I have no way to verify, but the websites I had been to claimed they came on W53 heads.

The first EFI engine was on the '73 Bluebird U L18SSS in Japan. (610) Pretty sure it was never on the 510 or on the L16 motor.

The W53 is an EFI head and has injector notches in the tops of the intake ports.

There was also an EFI manifold/flow meter on ozdat a while back for $350.00 AU.

This is a more complete setup as far as I can tell, never seen one for sale with the stock ECU before, that's worth something, but it's still a bit rich for me.

If it comes with a fresh head, that's also worth something also, to bad it's not closer, and I don't want to join that forum just to make an offer, I actually think it would fit on the 520 project without having to move the brake master.

Yeah I don't think they ever came on a 510 either. But as far as an L16 I am not sure. I always thought there was only the L18e setup, but then last year I bought this part from Japan: 14035-N1401. It is labeled as a L16e Datsun Bluebird gasket.

I considered that it may be a misprint, but I just found this on datsun1200.com

I am more curious than anything. Not worried about splitting hairs.

I just can't find any solid tech diagrams or photos showing the L16 with EFI.

Also I am curious about the ECU and more importantly, why that manifold looks so different. I guess someone could modified the crap out of an L18 manifold, but that is some clean work.

Looking at the two side-by-side, my interest is piqued:

It looks like the 73-74 Violet 1600 SSS-E either came with the option of electronic fuel injection or it was standard in that particular model.  I found a couple of websites talking  about it, but here is the best one because it had pix! http://bringatrailer.com/2011/09/23/bat-exclusive-27k-mile-1974-datsun-sss-e-bluebird/

There is a clean engine shot with the factory efi. Looks like the smoother efi manifold without the ugly egr and all the other hoses.

I wonder if there were any other cars with this system? I wonder if some of the early l18e manifolds were similar in looks?

That's about the going rate for one of these systems. Actually this one may be on-the-cheap, because most are sold with the ugly smog crap. I believe the most common engine size was 1800 for the efi setup, like the 180SX for example.

Yeah I guess it all depends what people are willing to pay for it. I spent months tracking down the L18 manifolds. In some respects, especially if you have fabrications skills, it just isn't worth it. On the other hand, to have something a bit uncommon, people will pay gobs of money.

For the one on ebay we have a head that came off a "low mileage" motor and a manifold with most of the parts. He's asking $1500. That I think is too much and above what I typically see.

On the other hand, the L16 manifold (which is much better looking) with a "rebuilt head", ECU, and some wiring is a much better setup, value wise, in my opinion. That price is very fair, and if I wasn't broke, I would snap it up for $1200 bucks in a heartbeat.
