Camtron
It seems like a common problem for 510 owners (myself included) is bent, ugly, or just plain trashed door sills. You also don't see many decent used sets come up for sale very often; or I don't anyway. I've also had no luck finding any aftermarket replacements, although it looks like Dave Paré may have made some CF replacements, but that's unfortunately no longer an option. So has anyone been able to find a solution to this? I shy away from "universal fit" gear as much as possible, but has anyone tried something that looked good? Or would any fabbers out there be willing to try making these in fiberglass or carbon fiber? Or is this something that most people would just run without? Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance! Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
I plan to just get some nice welting for around the door opening, and just run something like a Brushed Aluminum plate for the sill. Probably do some sort of design on it. Quote Link to comment
Camtron
I'm not sure what you mean by welting, but brushed aluminum would look nice. I'd love to be able to just fab up something like this, but I've got no experience or tools. I feel like I could learn to do stuff like that, but I'd have to find someone to learn from which would be difficult. But anyway, thanks for your response and be sure to post some pics of what you come up with if you don't mind! Quote Link to comment
Ratwagon1600
Not the best photo, but, modified 180B (610) scuff plates in my Goon. Pls don't ask how many of the genuine ones I threw away in my early days of Datsun ownership (when I use to rally drive these cars) :( Photo added now! 2 Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Welting is the stuff that covers the pinch weld. Im betting one could use 1 continuous piece and just meet at one of the top corners. As far as fabrication, its not much, at least not in my mind. Get some 1.5" or so (just a guess) flat bar aluminum. Cut to size as cleanly as possible. And then let your artistic side come out. Im thinking something like Polishing the center of it, so then I can get "DATSUN" sand blasted over it. Then give the brushed aluminum look, masking the center to achieve a boxed polished center. Might need to change up the order of things though... Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
the rabbit door sills slide on and look pretty good but they dont look stock at all Quote Link to comment
KyushaKai
I noticed on Ebay Australia, somebody makes repro ones. They don't look as nice as OEM ones but it's an option.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-NISSAN-BLUEBIRD-510-1600-SILL-ROCKER-INTERIOR-ALUMINIUM-SCUFF-PLATES-/130884546708?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e7953b094&_uhb=1 1 Quote Link to comment

Those look a lot sturdier than the OEM ones... and don't be hard on yourself, it seems like everyone who has owned a Datsun long enough has trashed something "worthless" that ended up being just the opposite. And anything sacrificed to appease the Rally Gods was not done in vain!!! Quote Link to comment

Seriously, I could almost cry when I think about stuff I threw out 20 years ago as "worthless" which these days I'd almost give my left testicle for :) Quote Link to comment
gblombach
Does anyone know if the step plate from the 240z will fit the 510? Even close enough to modify? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic08g04/40-3222 Quote Link to comment
Ranman72
one of the problems is they are about 2 or 3 inches shorter and they also are only a 90 degree they do not have the raised area to go over the pinch weld the 2plus 2 ones are about 2 inches longer but have the same pinch weld problem when photo bucket quits being stupid and slow I will try to load pics Quote Link to comment
heywier427
ebay mexico has repops, but only for 4 doors, so they are a little short. http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-552986966-datsun-510-moldura-estribo-interior-_JM Its pretty difficult to purchase stuff though, especially if you dont speak spanish like me :) 53 bucks tho. You will have luck searching for old 70-80's cars stuff, specially older american, cause they are remade. But these age cars also have the sill going over the pinch weld and securing carpet. Edit: theres actually tons to choose from, but for me, I would want to find a plain one. All the ones im finding say Fisher, or have a spot for a name tag. these ones look good! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-68-69-70-Roadrunner-Charger-Coronet-Belvedere-B-body-Sill-Scuff-Plates-NEW-/201568800213?fits=Make%3APlymouth&hash=item2eee6fcdd5:g:hCMAAOSwM0FXH6kg&vxp=mtr Quote Link to comment
