280zx strut, which lower ball joint?

I have 280zx struts and the ball joint on the knuckle below the strut is toast. Will the 510 joint/knuckle work? Or do I need a 280zx one?

They might be the same.. but the 510 one will for sure mount to the lower control arm and the strut.

Use the 510 ball joint or what ever fits the lower control arm. The zx is a totally different part number it may or may not work but the 510 definitely will.

Depends on what year your 510 is I believe, the 68-69 had smaller diameter studs on the ball joints 12mm vs 14mm of the 70-73. The lower knuckle/steering arm is the only part that is different.

 

If you have 70-73 the 510 ball joint will work. If you have 68-69 use the lower knuckle/steering arm from the zx strut assemblies and then a ball joint from a 70-73 510

Mike is right, use your year 510 balljoint and your stock steering arms...

 

ZX steering arms change your steering ratio so don't bother with those

I used the zx arms and don't have any issue, steering resonce is a little quicker but its not anything ridiculous.

Shorter arm is more responsive to steering wheel input but requires more effort. Good for quick turns like canyon carving. Long arm is less responsive and less effort. Better on the highway.

Questions for those in the know:

 

Does the ZX arm have any geometry differences to the 510 arm? Any changes to the relationship between the tie rod plane and the strut bottom plane?

 

How much shorter are they?

They're 2" shorter and narrow the track by I want to say 1/2" a side or so. Thats all I know of
