STOMPIN A TOAD
Does anyone know if an oil pump drive ring from a 240z will work on my L16? Quote Link to comment
STOMPIN A TOAD
Surely someone has to know. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Spindle? The oil pump/dizzy drive? I think they are several inches too long. All L and Z series 4 cylinder should work. Well except the Z24i with throttle body. Quote Link to comment
420n620
ring ? you mean #8 - gear-driven, part # 15023-09400 http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun510/Datsun510Index/Engine/OilPump/OilPump1/tabid/485/Default.aspx I don't know if their the same. just making sure that's what part your questioning. gl Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Some of the early L-16s had a drive gear and spindle of a different diameter, but those are easily identifiable when compared to another set. All other drives are compatible. Quote Link to comment
racerx
will ID ing the distributor help. They have numbers stamped on the body. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
All other drives are compatible. They are??? Some of the early L-16s had a drive gear and spindle of a different diameter, but those are easily identifiable when compared to another set. Some rare early ones were brass and highly sought after for racing. Well I checked and all L motors (4s and 6s) use the same spindle. The Z20/22/24 carb motors use a different number. The early Z20E (EFI) uses and even different number. Here's the rest of my collection... The 3on the far left are from Z24i and KA24E motors. Quote Link to comment
racerx
so basically the question he had about 240Z and L16 are interchangeable Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
The L24 and L16 oil pump/dist spindle should be identical. As is the worm gear on the crank. And the oil pump itself as far as I know. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
They are??? OK, clarification: within the range of L series motors, all spindles are the same at the crank side with the exception of the ealy brass drive units. Happy? Quote Link to comment
STOMPIN A TOAD
I think I may have got my answer...??? I was referring to the worm gear. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
On the crank? Well it's unique to the L16 used on the 510 according to part numbers but I don't see why. All other 521/620 L16s use the same one as in the L18s and L20Bs as well as the Z series motors.. I'm sure those would work but may throw off where the rotor points slightly. Quote Link to comment
