PrimeLuxeZ
What ever gets the job done for the time being right. Their might be some updates because the car will have to be moved and idk what imma do but work on it and get it decent looking. (remove all surface rust) Quote Link to comment
PrimeLuxeZ
Update 4/16/13 Finally an update on Sally. With pictures and videos. I apologize for the videos before hand. I thought id try something new. First I started to sand down quarter panel surface rust, that I didnt get to the previous time I tried to sand it and primer it. Rust was going through primer. So motivation kicked in because the vehicles had to be moved due to code complience. *thumbs down. So I thought we where gonna park the car with a friend or something, so I was like since I have time right now ill take on the task. And heres how it started. Hit it with the Sanding block mostly, and I have to say I was really suprised how well the block worked Gave it about 4 counts of primer, just to make sure surface rust doesnt go through it. How she looked cooped up in the back yard in the corner. And pic of hood also, still needs some aligning so it can close properly. Dat straight 6 engine bay picture. Will start deleting crap that doesn't work. Still had half the day left. So I just said F it and painted the dash metal skeleton with some undercoating I had saved up from my z31. Was gonna do a rising sun on it, but that'll be in the near future. Undercoating maybe half the can left. Dash looking all pale and what not. :D And a video of me painting Yay! Im so lame. Sorry for the sideways video, was still trying to figure out my phone. Then had to finish it up with black spray paint, since the undercoating finished on me. :( Then more rust. Not so bad as the passenger side tho, so im happy with that. Click it \/ \/ Dash back in with the gauges, looks pretty raw, I really like how it looks. Maybe you could even say Ratty. New work area for the Ol' girl, And im actually motivated to work on it, since I have so much space around her. And ill end this update with my Girlfriend and Shady, I had to beg her to just stand by the car. I was like babe go model in front on the 280, she was like idk how. Told her well just stand by it and smile, I was lucky she even smiled and did it. 2 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
the previous time I tried to sand it and primer it. Rust was going through primer. Gave it about 4 counts of primer, just to make sure surface rust doesnt go through it. FYI, it does that. Most primers will let water through (primer is hygroscopic). Bare primer on a car that's out in the weather starts rusting almost immediately. I have heard good quality epoxy primers (which are really more "sealers" than "primers") will keep the moisture out. And ill end this update with my Girlfriend and Shady, I had to beg her to just stand by the car. I was like babe go model in front on the 280, she was like idk how. PrimeLuxeZ
Ahh okay I had no idea primer was hygroscopic, always went with it for the price mainly. So cheap. Do they sell the epoxy at normal auto parts stores? Im probably not searching hard enough. Lol, I thought there was, just wasnt sure it it was on ratsun or not. 1 Quote Link to comment
72240z
You can get a, epoxy primer/sealer at most auto parts stores. Primer sealers as stated are to seal out moisture. Self etching primers are when going directly over metal. High build or sand-able primers are to cover up (and sand out) subtle imperfections, scratches, swirls etc... There are plastic primers for bumper and trim as well. Which to use depends on the situation. Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
lol, I thought there was, just wasnt sure it it was on ratsun or not. http://community.ratsun.net/topic/26311-nsfw-hotties-and-dotties/page-13  Quote Link to comment
PrimeLuxeZ
Lol thanks. I been looking for it. Okay here are some videos of the 280zx. This one is with the cat only connected from the front bolts and left open right after. And the following is with the cat totally disconnected. I did this to see what would be the difference was, and was a lot actually. So I hit up the local auto parts store bought some grade 8 bolts that where about 4 dollers and connected the cat back to see how that was, and what a difference it was. Will be uploading video of how quiet it is later on as i didnt get a chance at the time. 1 Quote Link to comment
PrimeLuxeZ
Update 5/2/13 Nothing to special. Just some pictures of the front bench bumper removed. Looks worlds better in real life. I really like it, will need to buy an air dam eventually. I still have my old leather seats from my z31 in the garage, put them in the s130, will need some work to make them fit, as I researched it. for some reason I had the idea it was a direct bolt in. Would've been nice. Torn up, but better than nothing. Bumper still on. Bumper removed with strut things still attached. And it all removed. Not really sure where to put turn signals now tho. And a different angle I also fixed the center gauges. Their was a rattling sound coming from inside the casing. So I opened it up and three screws that hold in the timer on the far right gauge backed out when I would press the restart button on the outside, so fixed that and gave it a clean and remove the mesh that covers timer as it was torn in half. Ryoskatekov
was your cat bolts rusted out? How did you remove it? manual tools gave me no luck :P Quote Link to comment
PrimeLuxeZ
Actually no I had no issue, just a socket and a breaker bar to break them loose and a ratchet. I did strip one out, because while I was taking the last one out it was holding the weight of the car and bending it, and i had nothing under it to support it, that was the only issue I had, but iwasnt to worried about it, because I was gona replace them. Mine is completely rusted out... I wanted to straight pipe it ( I put high ZDDP oil in... the cat is prly dead by now) but it won' t budge.. And for the turn signal, guna prly need a lot of fab but my idea was to put a 96~99 maxima turn signal on there.... I still haven't got a chance to do it but planning on it. pretty cheap on ebay too. 1 Quote Link to comment

PrimeLuxeZ
Update 6/14/13 So finally did some work on the 280zx, I was kinda forced upon it. My dad gave me three weeks to work on it and if not it was going bye bye. So this was the last week that I had, and decided to do some work. I hit up Auto Zone and bought some Paint, Paint strippers, plastic scrapers, a fresh set of spark plug wires, and some new battery post because the old ones were crap. Better pic of the engine bay. Supplies Fresh new wires. Not NGK tho :( Old wires. New ones installed. Then I started to remove paint from the car, I used the Rustoleum Base and clear coat remover. Works like a charm, I highly recommend it to people who are trying to remove paint quickly and on a budget, was only about 7 dollars the can. I love this stuff, but it burns especially in the sun when it gets on your skin. Really wanted to get this paint stripped and painted, so I can put the window back on. Im going to strip all the paint and primer it, and rattle can it white, just so It can all be the same color. This is what's happening so far. Also All the wires are getting spark, but I think its too weak, Spark on the car should be a bluish color if i'm correct right? Because spark on this on a yellowish. Correct me if im wrong. Ryoskatekov
Yaaay update. and as in "3 weeks to work on" , to make it look nice or get the car running? anyways, the rustoleum thing seems amazing... I might as well try it when I decide to repaint my shit ZX lol. Quote Link to comment
PrimeLuxeZ
Well three weeks to do something on it, he just wanted to see me working on it. I was really suprised with the outcome. Worked beautifully. I actually wasn't so sure about it, but said fuck it and bought it too see how it would work. Gonna buy some more to do the rest of the car. Also I was thinking of doing black and white kinda like that panda ae86's style. white on top and across the bottom body line paint it like a black bedliner or something to protect with rocks and road debri.
