Rasp933
Do I need the stock coil to go wit it? Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
Best thread ever. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The stock matchbox coil works much better than an Accel for a points-based distributor. Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
Kool guys got it to work.what should I gap the plugs at.now its at 32 I believe! Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
0.032 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Assuming this is for the 510, I would just look up the stock gap for a later EI car, maybe '78-79 200SX/truck/510? I usually just buy new NGK BPR6ES-11 plugs and toss 'em in. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The EI dizzys and coil, either remote igniter or the matchbox, has superior voltage output in addition to NOT having points in them. Not much sense having extra voltage available if you don't take advantage of it. The points dizzy will fire a 0.032" gap but the EI dizzys will fire a 0.038"-0.043" gap. This provides a longer spark to light the fire. Especially good for leaner idle and cruise mixtures. By leaner I mean closer to 14.7 to one. Often there are the odd miss or stumble trying to fire these mixtures. The Matchbox will improve or remove this. Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
Yup I don't hear any misses any more.should time it at 12degs at idle? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
But if you continue to use the Accel coil, set the plug gap to .032 to .034, because that coil is not high energy. Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
Or 10degrees .I have l20b Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
Its at 32 at the moment Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
What bout coils at autozone.for 26 bucks.can use dem if I wana use wider gap? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, this coil is for the 1978-1980 L20B electronic ignition: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/1979-Nissan-Datsun-620/Ignition-Coil/_/N-imh6xZ9n80r?filterByKeyWord=coil&fromString=search And then short across the Resistor (or remove resistor and connect all three wires together). banzai510(hainz)
What accel coil is it Super Coil? Super coils are .7ohms and do come wit a ballast in the kit. But Im unsure if you can run it w/o the ballast. or the SSuper sotck coil which is a Point SPEC based coil and shoutd run a ballast resisitor If i douht stay with the stock set up. or just buy a MSDblaster 2 coil. NO BALLAST and youll be fine and have your go faster Bling coil Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Or 10degrees .I have l20b 12 degrees at idle is a good starting point. Quote Link to comment

Rasp933
Super stock universal performance coil Quote Link to comment
Rasp933
Its a 8140c.super stock performance coil Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The key word is "stock" performance. Not a high-energy EFI coil. Accel says the 8104C is "for points ignition systems" Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
That means run this coil with the stock ballast resisitor. PS the Super stock Accels are all made in China Now. You might be going backwards. Quote Link to comment
