datzenmike
The D-21 and WD-21 are wider by about an inch per side than a 720. The D21 rear ends are leaf spring but I don't know if the same spacing as the 720 leaves. The WD-21 Pathfinder are coil springs and 4 link with panhard bar so lots of trimming and grinding. My Pathfinder 4 link. I would have used a D-21 but there weren't any available near me. Some WD-21 Pathfinders came with rear disc brakes, I don't think the D-21 did. WD-21 w/rear disc and 720 axles on right..H-233 axles are thicker and 31? spline. The early D-21 Hardbody to '93 had an LSD option while all Pathfinders did (4.375 and 4.625 only) up to the Xterra but earlier units had the higher brake away settings and later ones were for soccer moms. The differential mounting studs to the housing changed to 12 from 10 around '94? and also the spline count, so early axles won't fit later diffs. Something like that, you'll have to research this. My 4 pinion H-233 4.625 LSD. This thing is HUGE and larger than a Ford 9". Engine tags on the pass inner fender under the hood hinge will list the factory installed diff and the ratio but not if LSD. Look on the back side of the diff under the dirt for a stamp sized orange sticker that says... ...or simply LSD. Quote Link to comment
HRH
The H233b axle is 31 spline until about 97 or 98 I think. Then they went to 33 spline axles. And no, the D21s never got disc in the rear, while the Pathy did. Quote Link to comment
_chiefjt
So my junkyards gonna charge me 137.50 for the whole rear end assembly. Is that a good deal? I'm going to see if I can piece together a rear end. My plan is to get a solid 720 driveshaft with the d-21 rear end with a pathfinder lsd diff and disc brakes. I'm taking everything off the pathfinder rear end and putting on the d-21 rear end. Is this possible and will it still be wider than the stock 720 rear end? Thanks, Quote Link to comment
ssnapz
hell of a deal, i got a deal on paying $100 for my 3rd member only for my 720 diff. hb and pathy are both wider then 720. i think the pathy 3rd and axles with diff should bolt right up to the hb housing, i could be wrong though. _chiefjt
Yeah, and I'm not gonna use the pathy calipers. I'm gonna be sneaky and put z32 calipers on the rear end assembly hopping they won't notice. My junkyard is overrun and the prices have gone up lately. Pretty lame so I salvage what I can. ggzilla
Why not just use the H190? Brand new locker is only $600, cheaper than the clutch LSD for the H233. Quote Link to comment
_chiefjt
Didn't know they made a bolt in locker for my 3:7 H190. Plus I don't know much about the lockers. And I probably won't go lockers because its $600 LOL When I can get an lsd rear end with disc brakes, z32 calipers, and a 4:3 gear ratio for $137.50 Quote Link to comment
_chiefjt
Found this on yahoo japan. If google calculated it right it should be $121.16 in U.S. dollars. I don't know how the payment works so. Says it fits the H190 3:7 rear end. AND IT'S LSD!! http://page15.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t297097435 Just thought I'd share. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Sweet! You may have to change out the spider gears in that unit, as it's for a roadster and likely the spline count is different. Quote Link to comment
